Frontend is just the interface you slap the actual AI into. Silly Tavern and Agnai are the most popular ones.

Fucking RORU, at this point anything is better than CAI.
Turbo is cheap as hell, easy to trialscum if you're cheap, and there are probably still a bunch of reverse proxies with it you're really cheap.
GPT-4 might be the smartest model so far but OAI needs to give you permission to use it and even then it's really expensive, so most people rely on the reverse proxies.
Claude can currently be used through a local proxy that uses it through Slack. It's much better than Turbo but not as smart as GPT-4, but some people still prefer it due to its verbosity and better prose.
