Made me curious, so I went back to check the Last V Standing with her, and MaiR is half a head shorter then AZKi when they're standing back to back, and that's fairly consistent with Hachi being half a head smaller then MaiR when she's around AZKi's shoulders. You can also tell the models are likely fairly accurate with how they don't clip or come up short when they go to touch hands, so Hachi really is imagine tier.

Whenever I check for covers, I always start with Hachi and Saki. Chances are they have covered all the popular songs.

I like Saki because she is a very versatile singer across very different types of songs.
Preserved Roses, Shangri-la, シルシ, 猫, I will always love you..... are all impressive. My biggest complaint is her audio setup which sounds cheap and muffled (though not as bad as how Chima's setup used to be). I wish people would tell her about it. Get whatever Chima or Hachi is using.

>>9815228
I would just disagree there. Suisei doesn't sing opera and sentimental ballads the way Chima does, not even close.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z39--ZYaes

The comparison is also tenuous because Suisei power sings each note instead of smoothly transitioning between them, so her studio covers are usually intense songs like Ghost. While Chima is buttery smooth between syllabes. They are so different in strengths that you may as well compare Sinatra to Bob Dylan.

Aimer is a strange thing to focus on when neither Chima nor Suisei is the best at that kind of music. If you just focus on your own fixation, you get a corresponding impression of the singers.

I chose Aimer because her songs are actually harder to sing than it looks and lots of vtubers can't sing it properly, even the easier ones like Kataomoi. Sure they have different styles but it is an easy way to filter out good and bad singers.

>> No.9836000

>>9835294
Nah, what you filter out are people who can sing Aimer to your liking and people who can't.
If I pick opera as the metric then I don't filter out good & bad singers; I filter out people who can sing opera to my liking and people who can't. And it turns out, unsurprisingly, that many vsingers can't, but that doesn't mean they can't sing other kinds of music well. Or using Ado songs as the metric for instance. In fact, there even are more established reasons to care about opera rather than an arbitrary Jpop artist, as they teach classical singing and vocal techniques. But it is still not the final test.

>> No.9839185

Hmm, so far I haven't found a Guren no Yumiya cover that I really like. Something that is both raw and epic. Stella and Chima's voices are too light for the feeling I want.

>> No.9839656

After pointing out idols aren't singers, later you'll read pure filth that not rapping is somehow a weakness. Or that triangle sings Loki better. She still has to learn how to miss fewer notes before you can start comparing two individuals from such a huge skill gap.

>>9780027
>>9836000
I agree, using arbitrary measures such as "can't sing properly" "too light" "not raw and epic" failing to point out what's the exact issue is pure idiocracy. Using pop studio covers as a metric expecting to be as close to identical to the original as possible. I can only imagine this anon would only like a karaoke of this song if it had the exact same vocal filters used live.

Probably needed to start in a lower key, since you can hear how badly squished it is when they try to go to a higher range at the end. Agree that it's offnote when trying to hold them, the enunciation is pretty bad, and the heavy handed application of pitch correction leads to it sounding worse then if it were just naturally not perfect, with really strange moments at 2:15-ish. It also sounds like they tried to record the audio with a mic intended for just talking which leads to some weird artifacts and probably why the enunciation sounds so weird, and it's fairly nasally whenever trying to go falsetto for some extra range. The Watame's lullaby is better, but I think in both cases they're a bit low on most notes.

I'm sure there's a bunch of vocal coaches with videos on Youtube, but the most basic thing is to make sure you're standing up with good posture because if you're as short as breath as that song sounded, you'd get winded walking up the stairs. You also don't have to do the entire song in one take, you do multiple takes of each verse and stitch the best ones together.

What this anon >>9892176 said, many FREE resources are available on youtube and if you really tried have used a search engine of your own accord.
Formal lessons aren't really necessary especially for pop tier songs. Find someone in your family or friend that are skilled singers/musicians. What they will teach you can be found online as we've mentioned earlier but having someone give you direction personally helps.

Record your voice, for some less experieced individuals are unable to hear if they are on tune live but with practice can solve your tone deafness. Listen to the recording after and the majorty of the population can tell themselves if their own recording is out of pitch. You can't? grab your recorder and an instrument, play the notes in order and try to sing the same notes in a similar manner. Do this repeatedly until you're confident you're on tune then show someone who cares, give yourself a pat on the back as you've finished the first step and are now on par with preschoolers before they learned the G Clef.
If none of these worked you may unfortunately be part of the smallest minority with the terminal case of being musically inept, or you you just plain consider learning to be too much of a trouble and a waste of time. In either case stick to rap, claim they are songs and idols are singers.

They also used to be the big dick company while Holo was a footnote until Gen3/4, so if you were talented you applied to Niji. Technically competent, a pleasant but not amazing voice that has some flaws, but she needs to learn how to do more then just hit the notes. She picked some very emotional songs, with Inochi and Palette in particular, to cover and she wasn't able to convey those emotions in her singing. Her first karaokes were similar where she was nice to listen to, but I'd describe her as the MIDI instruments of singing where there wasn't much personality or inflection on her singing. Maybe she's got better since then as she's relaxed but I've got enough other things to listen to that I haven't cared enough to find out.

One Last Kiss, Inochi no Namae, Secret of My Heart & La La La Love Song are a few of some beautiful covers that was sung passionately in recent karaokes. Sometimes she still is bland but when it’s a hit it’s fantastic. I do have a soft spot for her crystal clear intonation as well.

In my (subjective) opinion, the worst version for me is Irys. As people say, her voice becomes super nasal during the higher notes instead of opening up like all the others. The 2nd worst for me is Suisei, because she keeps dropping syllables halfway instead of holding and smoothly transitioning.

Gura's actual problem (as opposed to cringe hyperbole from contrarians), is the inconsistency in her performance (due to lack of practice or seriousness). For instance, compare her famous Baka Mitai and robotic Lemon. They may as well be 2 different singers. The closest good Gura cover that may serve as fair comparison with JP vsingers is 世界の約束. It's quite popular with non-holos, yet Suisei, Azki, Sora, Watame etc. have never sung it.

No she's not that great, sure she has some fundies down but that's about it.

Most of the actual vsingers shit her out of the water.

In terms of general best vsingers, taking the whole package into consideration I'd say HIMEHINA are still top of the game. Highly talented, unique vocals, originals out the ass, high quality MVs, cute models. 10/10 singers.

Other mentions I'd throw in the top echelons are YuNi and MaiR.
I like the kamitsubaki girls and kotone, but they're admittedly less strong on the singing front than the actual top singers. I might swap a few of them for YuNi though since she can be hit or miss on some songs.

Their music is moe pop and zoomer vocaloid stuff which evoke no emotion in me other than "generic". Basically the kind of songs you wouldn't rush to recommend to your parents. There is also no live karaoke to actually hear their voices behind all the deafening electronics.
I have noticed that the Western audience mostly prefer impressive raw vocals to junk pop sounds or unnecessary music, like how they often sing You Raise Me Up in idol auditions. That may also explain why the duo isn't more prevalent around these parts. Basically if they start covering stuff with more universal appeal such as Ghibli music (or whatever outside zoomer music), people may care more. I know I would.

I like the old school style more, streaming is so fucking boring and i don't want to listen to some girl sit there clicking on a controller for 3 hours periodically blurting out anime girl noises.

I want a nice solid 5-20 minute video where i can consume it then move on with my life. And older vtubers did that better, I hate the streaming trend.
Kotone fell for it too, and all her streams are fucking terrible, her older studio videos were cute and I enjoyed them but she's completely stopped doing them.

>> No.9967568

>>9967204
Kotone is so lazy that she doesn't even put her model at the corner while streaming. Probably due to how impractical 3D models are (she doesn't have live2D model iirc). I don't really care about gaming streams, but I actually do like the occasional zatsudan where they get to talk about their music, their plans for the future, and their experiences. Helps to make them more interesting then just being a voice on a song, where there are plenty of traditional musicians if you want that. It's akin to someone going on a talk show to talk about their newest CD or concert, but without it having to be arranged by someone else. Singing streams are also interesting since you get to see someone in the most au naturale setting that you're going to get short of having them sing in person. Even a Live has a small army of audio engineers making them sound better.

Pitch control was poor during Yoru ni Kakeru, and she was more reading than singing. Clearly the song requires more practice.
She may have her niche with the voice acting. People could really feel it during Los Los Los and Unravel. Whether she could fix the poor pitch control and belt more satisfyingly in the future remains to be seen.
