Japanese seem to go to the hospital for every slight ailment. They don't even seem to have family doctors or general practitioners. Maybe that's just because everyone you ever hear about lives in Tokyo. For Americans going to the hospital must mean you're fucking dying, otherwise you wouldn't do it because you'll get fucked in the ass on copays, so you're more likely to go to regular doctor or clinic, or just go untreated.
