I don't want this to turn into a tribalfag thread but can we talk about what exactly is the reason for the disparity in sub growth and live viewership between Hololive and Nijisanji? Top-tier Holos and top-tier Nijis have roughly the same average viewership, but Hololive has multiple people above the 1 million mark while Nijisanji has none (except for Kuzuha, soon). What causes this? Are Hololive's fans just more likely to be dead subs or does Nijisanji have more tourists who watch without subscribing?

Japanese people sub less in general.
There's a picture of a JP-only Clipper with 60k subs and 180million Views vs an EoP-only Clipper with 200k subs and 200million Views.
There's probably like 50 other reasons but this is one of the biggest ones.

One got more widespread appeal to the west first. Like it or not the super majority of people that are being roped in will come through Hololive more so than indies or companies that aren't Holo. There also seems to be a bigger "support" network that stopped with Irys in which they'd mass sub pre debute.

that only explains Hololive's sub growth rate, not, for example, why Kuzuha has a higher average live viewership than Pekora despite Pekora having more subs

Once nijiEn picks up they’ll be in direct competition again. Many people just haven’t heard of niji yet, but their new branch is excelling rapidly

Hololive management & talents made multiple very good decisions and benefited from an element of timing, and that lead to Hololive being the agency that blew up internationally. When talking about popularity, the snowball effect is real - a thing that has more fans has more people talking about it, and those people in turn draw even more fans into the thing - and HL benefited big-time from it. The end result is that Hololive is just way more famous and gets more "casual" vtube viewers - people who sub but maybe only watch a stream every now and then.

Holo took off in the west first and because of this has more clippers and viral stuff spread around which results in people who don't actually have much interest in watching subscribing and then becoming a dead sub.

Youtube's subscription system is a fucking joke in general though (though it kind of works for livestreamers). I don't think you should read too much into sub counts, especially when you factor in if the channel got a lot of subs from viral/meme shit.

Nijisanji doesn't have EOPs watching.

there's something I've always been wondering, is there a native or extension feature to edit the youtube frontpage? subbing to vtubers made the whole thing completely flooded by then, and I want to see whats new in non-vtuber channels, I use holodex for youtube vtubers anyways

Nijisanji and Hololive exist on the same platform and are both equally accessible. The playing field is completely level. So Niji's lack of popularity can only mean it just isn't that good.

Hololive got popular in the west with memes and viral clips like Fubuki scatman. It just grew exponentially from there. Niji hasn't had the same breakthrough yet.

Saw a botan geddan meme by a japanese fan. 90% are english comments where majority don't even know that meme. Whereas 99% of fumino tamaki's geddan meme video is japanese comments and the English comments actually knew about that meme.

Those are not dead subs those are eop subs which is equal to dead subs because they only watch clips but still consider themselves as a fan of that vtuber and subscribe to them
