Nijisanji's hiring process isn't based on sub counts like Hololive. Finana wasn't even an active vtuber and got to debut with their first and most important wave. Petra was retired for like 2 years from vtubing before resurfacing in Nijisanji.
I think they value someone that gets along with the group atmosphere more than someone with a high sub count which could appear as nepotism I guess.

I feel like it's wrong to assume all four of those designs are actually going to debut. When it comes to these premade characters that you can select during audition, there's always the chance one (or more) of then don't come out.

Case in point, here's an audition opening from 2019. Of all these characters, only one has ever debutted...and it was a couple months ago. So don't be surprised if wave 3 end being only three people and/ or it gets postponed and we end up with different designs altogether.

Indie vtubers frequently shout out each other's socials and send their viewers to other streams (either through the Twitch raid function or linking the YT stream in chat), so watching one vtuber will lead to another and one friend group will know another.
I started watching indies through Lyrica and that's how I've found a lot of the vtubers that I have. Sometimes I also scrounge through Twitch/YT looking for vtubers who've played games I like.

I started by watching Prism which branched to phase connect then kawaii/tsunderia and Cyberlive. Then during downtimes I started looking into twitch vtubers using the /wvt/ thread and found more favourites.
