What is it that determines the choices for the medal players?

If you mean the current available choices, 4 of them were previous medals (Watamage included, before Kaichou was added for the previous Cup). The rest were trends I've noticed appearing a lot universally on the board, regardless of thread or subject matter; they've also been chosen based on expectations of them making the roster anyway.

For example, I have no doubt a Towa representing player would make the roster, hence rather than clutter the next question with her there, I went and tried to see if anyone might want Pregnant Towa.

The only exceptions to that are APEX LEGENDS and IRyS, who I wanted to give a slightly more fair chance of getting in, given that they are new.

If anyone is truly upset with them effectively being given roster spots automatically, then I'll hold a referendum before the Cup and see if people want them removed. I don't expect that to be the case.

But for colors overall we probably want some with higher contrast than the base colors since some stadiums have grass which don't work with ours

Consider a 'dark' colored kit compared to our usual 'light' base so we can ensure contrast with other teams.
We don't want a case where our kits are too similarly colored to another team where the commentators become confused

So I dunno a Mio themed kit so Black with white color and red trim for example for an alternate with Fubuki themed colors for the Keeper for example for an example of the Dark scheme
