Twitch is generally better for western indies and channels that haven't already established a large audience on youtube. Growth is easier because the algorithm actually sort of works, there's a dedicated vtubing tag, raids allow for much easier flow of new viewers from one channel to the other and networking of content creators, and overall twitch is just built for streaming while youtube was always designed for viral cat videos and makeup tutorials. She said she'll be using her youtube channel for more non-VOD videos, which I'm actually really looking forward to.

Interesting, imo in the long run youtube would probably be better if only because of the blue ocean strategy. Once the ball is rolling, growth is exponential. Even though there is the vtubing tag, it only ever seems to show the top streamers in that category unless you specifically look for the lower view streams. And while raids to give you instant growth, you'll have to wrestle with the raider if you're ever streaming at the same time. I don't agree that the algo doesn't work since youtube does occasionally throw small vtubers at me randomly in the recommended. I wish I knew more about her content so I could get a clearer picture. Like why she was starting to stagnate. So it's possible Twitch might be better for her even after she gets huge.

Youtube was viable at the end of 2020, but it's been downhill over the past year even without the vtuber saturation. Starting with youtube deliberately hiding viewers to give inaccurate live numbers, to the occasional shadowban, to constant copyright strikes over the dumbest shit, which twitch also suffers from but handles in a more tolerable manner. She didn't really do anything wrong to cause stagnation. New viewers just didn't appear, and when they did, like in the FNF stream, they didn't come back. With twitch's raid system one can at least ensure a flow of viewers to and from the channel. The only hurdle is the nonexistent server and unreliable relays, which hopefully can be fixed with a private relay.

The viewer thing started happening at the tail-end of 2020 and even affected holos, that whole "x waiting, y watching" that subtracted several thousand live viewers at a time. Used to be called the viewer bug until YT came out and said it was a feature. The effect was more visible when vtubers that started streaming on youtube and moved to twitch ended up with almost double the viewers even though the viewers were mostly the same, like Koopa, Veleck, Carmine, Eira, meat, and a good number of other homegrowns.

I can't comment that much on copyright, but I do remember Koopa's rant on how irritating maintaining her youtube channel was before she moved to twitch because videos kept getting flagged, which Tanya commented and agreed on. Yakuza streams on YT didn't seem possible and even before the permanent move she'd basically make twitch her designated Yakuza streaming platform. I can easily imagine things getting worse, because why would anything nice ever happen?

It'd be nice if there was a better alternative.
