There are definitely parts that get dark, but at the end of the day it's a series about a bunch of autists in a dungeon. Even when it's trying to be serious there are silly moments. The manga was excellent and so far the anime's been a great adaptation of it.

I played the original Metal Gear games and appreciated the style and difficulty. I played the first MGS and appreciated the weirdly realistic way they did most of the game. Snake can possibly break to torture you actually need muscle relaxers to use a sniper rifle fighting multiple enemies outright usually leads to dealth.
