I'm not going to say it was a good decision in particular but two important points must be made:
The game always had homos, from day one, being mad now is retarded. This isn't Holocure sneaking them in later on.
The devs wanted to put a cool mecha in the game so they picked a homo who is apparently focused on using mecha or something.
They could have made Kronii and Vesper a tag team boss battle, which would have been funnier actually and pissed off way more people.

Just seems very weird for a game that has been consistent about assists and characters being separate to now introduce an assist with a character that has been in the game from the beginning, and not even an active Hololive member for many years already at that. And even more bizarrely, I am not even sure Subaru Police was even a thing when Coco was around, correct me if I'm wrong. Would make much more sense to have Watame the Borderline Did Nothing Wronger or Noel the shota lover be the character she was chasing instead.
And no, background character cameos are not the same since you can always remove the cameo when the character is fighting, which the game already does with Aki. You can't relaly restrict an assist based on whether someone is playing as Coco or not.

I really come from it more from the FvZ/GvZG games so just everything there is weird as really my only fighting games are like the Battle Assault 1/2, Smash and Hisou and none of those are 'standard' fighters.
I get that I gotta boost to chase and management is huge especially for the sidestep boosts but it often feels like if you're not a melee monkey you're worthless but the other guy even with me dancing the best I can with sidesteps will always nail me.

Hmm, I think rather than focusing on how to outspam your opponent in sidestep battles (which, as a side, is how I remember the FvZ melee game used to be, so it's understandable why the mentality is there), it's better to be focusing on when your opponent is out of boost instead. It's part of why I think of boost management as a macro version of frame battles in fighting games; neutraling is basically players throwing jabs or safe moves while moving around, until someone uses a move that's negative or whiffs and the other player punishes it. Damage in EXVS and the games after it are usually from punishing opponents who overuse their boost and have a longer recovery animation, or blindsiding an opponent who was focused on your partner. Even melee monkeys use this to their advantage, as you'll notice they spam very short boost dashes while getting closer to their opponent, and try their best to make their target use up boost before going in. It definitely takes time getting used to though, even if you had kept up with the series until GVGNext
