The derpy look kinda makes him cuter to be honest. Roberu feels more like a cute idol than a cool idol so the changes feel fitting but that's probably personal preference. On a more technical note, I think it has to do with how big his irises are drawn relative to the sclera they're clipped to in the model; the irises have a smaller space to really move in and are pretty big ngl (which might be plausible since it looked okay when he went gangimari). He and Shien have the same 2.0 model rigger and in contrast, I think Shien's irises just have more space to move in model-wise.
