i feel like at most vtubing can get is vocaloid-level status overseas: just about every gajin otaku is vaguely aware of hatsune miku or a certain song, but only the diehards actually go beyond the bare minimum and keep up with the scene and buy merch/albums, go to concerts, etc.

to get to that level of prominence talked in the doc, you'd have to start to do heavy appealing to casuals, which with holo's current way of content feels very unlikely. imagine a holostars branch catered to that level of "demon slayer and mha are my top 5 fr" anime casuals.....

Never heard of them, but if i had to guess, that's because one of their overlapping categories (K-Pop) is already pretty popular with "casuals" enough, and the bulk of their activities, are first and foremost music. They can tout themselves as idols all they want, but the bulk of Holo's activities have always been streaming, because getting attached to the character (and not necessarily their vocals) is what pushes merch. Streaming is still weird and niche to a lot of "casuals", (especially the Holo variety) and it until it finally breaks into mainstream proper, good luck with trying to compete with animanga + gaming.

The real interesting part is going to be trying to get the former to a status where they can be likened to big talk show celebrities, ala Kimmel and co.(obviously not to the same degree but something similar). It's possible considering industries often experience multiple booms so who knows what vtubing will look like at the end of the decade? More and more people are growing up with online creators instead of traditional media and anime is growing every year. Vtubing could be legit mainstream if there's competent leadership to spearhead the charge

I think Cover should stop being cowards and just debut a group who has 3D on debut, primarily focuses on music(original music, as much as possible)+group variety content like these guys seem to do. Even if they "flop"/become too expensive to manage, experimenting what can may/may not work outside the box can be fruitful.

I feel like Re:Gloss was meant to be this but they got scared of failure and made individual channels and stream like normal so they could be something to fall back on. Not necessarily a bad idea, but way too cautious for their own good.

That's going to be very difficult. Such a group would have to be JP only, considering how regularly they'll have to use the Cover studio. And speaking of, Cover cut down on talent's 3D shows because there simply were too many talents to support. Also, trying to schedule the studio for a 3D live is a long process and the waitlist can stretch on for months as per some members. As of now, they can't really facilitate having a group whose primary content revolves around continuous use of the studio when the 60+ other talents also want the studio. Maybe this'll be an option sometime in the future if we're to ever see another studio
