Is there anywhere I can read up on designing panels for under the stream?
I wanna make them medieval themed or along those lines, but not in an obnoxious way.

Zen pulled it off because they got in early and were a big VRChat mute and I'm fairly sure they also boosted Commy back in 2019/early 2020 when Zen was still basically the biggest EN vtuber. Corpse doesn't exactly do well and they're basically a 2iew without a /wvt/ audience.

You mean on twitch? You'll have to make pictures for that. Find a free, commerical-use gothic font, mess with filters in photoshop to generate a nice wood grain or paper texture, then make it look like a scroll or signpost. Not too difficult if you follow some tutorials.

If you want to be known for putting in the work (however little it takes) of making new ones every time, then go that route. People like variety as long as you have some sort of unifying theme or symbol or something so people can always go "Yeah, that's <VTuber's> schedule."

Yeah, looks good! Although you need more space around the words, you're clipping through the border and the negative space makes it look more professional. Add some ornamentation, like underlining or a sword stabbing through or an effect that makes the words look carved in and you're golden.

I know networking is a thing but does it matter unless it’s networking with someone that is fairly big? Then there are those “drop your PNG” threads and “follow for follow” which are clearly for the vtweeters.

there's never a correct answer, it depends on you and what you do.
if you're making great covers for example, that by itself will pull people into your streams because now they know you exist.
if you do reviews of popular media and get them out before the big youtubers do it (hard) people will see your stuff first and come to know you.
if you're a content creator for a special niche, people in that niche will come to know you. some random russian faggot on youtube has like 20k followers and he just spergs about lost ark.

2. Clip your best moments and put them up on various social media sites(budget $60 to $100 a month on getting an editor for this, well worth it. Just skip out out on one skeb or a few restaurant meals per month.)

4. Establish a following the right way

All of the above will give you a steady trickle of new eyeballs in your streams, from that point on its up to you to convert new viewers to regular viewers. You do this by cultivating a parasocial relationship. Thoughtful responses to chat, remembering names, setting up and pushing in-jokes, making a discord for your regulars to hang out in.

I've built a decent Japanese follower base on twatter and I wonder if it will be a debuff for them when I finally stream and do it in English. I'll have Japanese learnng streams and will speak some Japanese from time to time but it will be mostly English.
At the very least, they don't seem to mind I use DeepL to tweet and if anything, a lot of Japanese vtubers are learning Spanish so I could do that too.

So I'm a guy trying to think how to break into this.
I'm thinking streaming vidya, model making stuff and a load of educational content (learnalongs?) where I learn a language or programming, etc and bring the chat along for the ride.
Also exercise streams. Encouraging people to do the exercises too.

Card games, Japanese learning, challenge runs/drinking games, maybe drawing if I decide to pick it up again. I'd like to do cooking as well if I can think of a viable way to do that with my situation. Something I've had in mind for a sort of "arc" was going in fresh and learning how to speedrun a game, and seeing how my skill progresses over time.

This sounds like a good idea and I plan on doing it as well when I can actually stream. Like, pick out a somewhat short game that you like from games you’ve streamed and do an endurance stream of it on a certain milestone, then when you hit another milestone, do a Speedrun of it.

Ideally you'd probably want a 5000 series AMD CPU since their multithreading tech is slightly better but it doesn't really matter. The big gaming CPUs on the market are close enough that there aren't any bad performance purchases, just bad value purchases. If you have a modern 6 core 12 thread CPU or better you'll be fine.

Just get the best you can get which matches your budget. If you want Intel, I think the i7 10700K is hard to beat right now (11 series is more expensive for zero real gain).

There's a lot a lot I want to do. I've only really done games so far, but I've been thinking about:
-Singing and playing guitar. Maybe write some songs on stream like Power Nelson has done.
-Reading.
-Language study with a focus on immersion by way of video games. Less Duolingo and more just putting a game in Spanish and diving in.
-Math and computer science study.
-Stuff that I guess falls under "zatsudan"?

Most of it's still half-baked and may not even go over very well once it's out of the oven, but I want to try things that I think I'd like to see and just find out what sticks.

Is there any interest in chuubas playing competitive pokemon (doubles vgc)? AMD is better for head to head CPU encode streaming but since the anon has a 3070, you can just stream with Nvenc and make the GPU do the heavy lifting. I like the AMD platform much more - motherboards are cheaper if you know what you're doing, upgrade path up to a 5950X. It's actually pretty easy, there are automated online services for mechanical licenses in fact. If you google "mechanical license" you should be able to find a resource that helps you.
As for cost, that's going to probably be harder to define. I don't know how you'd break down a license for a public youtube video where you'd never be able to guess the total outreach, so you'll probably need an expert. If you figure that out please bring back the results.

Based on my basic research, licenses are sold by viewcount, and once you broach a viewcount, you are required to pay for a more expensive license. Most seem to start at a million views, which is waaaay more than anyone here will get unless they do the next Numa Numa.

With headphones and a mic, you should be able to isolate the BG sounds out of whatever you're running, especially if you've got multiple tracks to avoid DMCA strikes.

I don't want to watch people I don't know play games I've seen dozens of others play, so a game that is both not popular & is something the streamer enjoys helps me get into their stream a lot more. I'm currently still inclining with audience size, so I can't do any fuckery with stats (once I'm semi-stable, I'm planning on switching games, days, and times, to figure out what works best, but there's little point in that for now).

Mostly, I play what I'm familiar with and can explain everything, and a few that I'm entirely new to so chat can explain it.

I also have to bear in mind my PC is nearing 10 years old, so even if it was bleeding edge at the time, it's starting to show its age a bit now, so I can't run crysis at 8k and OBS and soundtrack and discord all at once.

I've raided every single time, even if I'm streaming to nobody. There's a few things to bear in mind though:
1 - How many people you have in chat. Don't raid Nyanners with yourself and 1 viewer
2 - How ACTIVE they are. Just because you have 10 viewers doesn't mean they're all going to post your raid message. Ask your chat to spam it before heading out, or if they have any suggestions on who to raid (ignore them though)
3 - Who you're raiding. I started out raiding small vtubers in the same game, but they were universally shit. So now I just raid someone I follow and know to be good, even if we're going from CK3 to ASMR. It also looks a bit clout-chasy, taking six viewers into a ~50 viewer stream, but I know that the new streamer's actually worth watching.

ALWAYS shout-out your raider when you get raided, but don't expect it when you raid (especially if you've a small group). If you get raided, tweet out a thank you after the stream and tag them in it. Also, write down who raids you, and check them out to see if they're interesting. If they are, see if you can raid them back, especially if they're a similar size to you (it's only polite). At the very least, it might be nice to toss them a follow (and turn off notifications, if they're bad).

I've taken to sometimes tagging the person I raid on twitter, especially if they're a similarish size. It means both sets of fans mingle, so you should both gain a little from it. Don't do it for clout though, you're doing it to help someone you like get bigger; not yourself.

But the fans are rabid - there's 300K subscribers to the CK subreddit, and 78K followers of the category on twitch. They like the game I'm streaming, which is how they found me. I've now had one guy raid me three times, and his mod raid me once (they always stream a few hours before I start, so until I do a ~20hr stream, I can't raid them back.

On top of that, I've been chatting in other small streams, and when they ask "who tf do we raid?", I'll suggest someone I follow and interact with on Twittcher. The streamer raids, says "Yeah, [anon] said you were cool", and now they've both raided me as well.

I've got 'ALT+M' will turn off my mic input, hide my avatar, and unhide a text source that says "Sorry, had to mute myself, brb". Hitting it again will turn on, unhide, and hide.

The problem is that if you combine them like this, you'd need to turn off the filter, or have the hotkeys different between hide/unhide, so you can toggle them all by themselves - if I have my model hidden, and then ALT+M it'll unhide the model and the text.

Mostly because I want to animate a series of small low quality short stills/animations where I use retarded Chuuni abilities or animate small stories I day dream about while at work.
I probably couldn't keep the chuuni act up all stream, but its mostly just for the short content on the side.

Its hard thinking of a design that isn't super derivative or just too hard too hard for my meager skills to animate. And going too simple just makes it look too generic goth.

I use Veadotube Mini. It has native gif support and allows for randomly-timed blinking frames. So I have a combination of one short talking gif and pngs for idle, idle blinking, and talking blinking. I think the result's pretty good and didn't take much extra effort.

I think the most important thing for "faceless" vtubers is for them to still have something the audience can connect to that emotes in some way. Human brains are very good at interpretating faces, even if they're not real, so you have some leeway for creativity.

The flaming face thing is pretty cool. You only really need eyes and a mouth that can capture the major emotions and then get some trigger animations with effects for more specific ones.

Talking to the void is a bit different than talking to friends and learning to fill dead air with actual interesting commentary is deceptively difficult. The value of pngtubing is in building up experience and a content style if live2d is not immediately available. A lot of people would prefer to wait and just become a Vtweeter or something until everything comes into place and you have the perfect debut but it rarely works out that way in reality.
