The issue with Phase Connect (and most of the other startups) is that they see Hololive's lucrative business model and just copy it. They're basically begging for scraps.

People rag on VShoujo here but at least I can respect them for their basically "Anti-Hololive" model - they aren't idols nor are they pushing for the idol market. They know their audience and is making strides there.

Niji Wave 1 and 2 is a bit of a disappointment since they are basically doing the same as Holo, but I would like to imagine that they'd incline once the all Male wave hits since no company has pushed for male talents yet.

NijiEN are consistently pulling in 1 - 2k viewers a stream, which yeah sure sucks if you think purely in terms of HoloEN / JP numbers, but is nothing to be ashamed of.

Thing is, NijiEN strategy of using pre-made avatars that don't really stand out from the plethora of indie designs out there and hiring from the indie pool based purely on numbers was always going to result in it playing second fiddle to HoloEN - say what you want about HoloMyth, but each streamer stands out as an individual when placed against any other EN agency or clique of indies not only in terms of avatar design or even individual personality, but in terms of speciality talent - Hololive worked much harder at creating EN from the hiring process, which was far less interested in numbers and far more interested in talent than NijiENs, to avatar creation, which was based on ideas brainstormed with the people behind the avatars.

I like NijiEN, or at least Lazulight - the second wave are still fairly new and what I've caught of their solo streams has been a bit dull so far. I will say NijiEN are far less awkward with regards to inter-agency collabs than HoloEN, which is their strength. However, that's only really important with regards to retaining viewers - not getting new ones. Unfortunately, I don't think NijiEN will ever reach HoloEN numbers because AnyColour just weren't as invested as Cover when it came to market domination.

However, as a viewer, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Look at the average Hololive fan. Is that what you really want?

Basically, from what I can infer, the designer (mama/papa) had already been decided, and the streamer would discuss their design with their designer before it ends up finalized. I feel like the Myth concept was already set in stone before they started brainstorming, so all the designs had to conform to that idea, and because there was a vested interest with regards to both management and the streamers themelves, they got wild with it, which is why you neded up with Ina's 10 feet of tentacles and Kiara's... entire design, which I mean, say what you want about it, it both stands out and comes across as something Kiara and Huke are both eccentric and short-sighted enough to come up with without thinking about mass appeal.
