There's no point to not runnign ads these days. Youtube will run ads on your videos regardless if you monetize it. Unless the contents is something advertisers don't want to touch. And you can count the topics that applies to but won't get you banned on one hand. The most obvious of which is channels about firearms or military history. Which doesn't apply to vtubers.

As for the topic on ads, only an idiot would think a company investing in marketing its product is a bad thing. Like fuck, if Cover actually promoted Reflect, it might be at 15 mil views by now. The reason why numberfags get mad is because it does skew the numbers and makes it hard to track/analyze. For example, we will now never know how many views DCL or Black Out would have gotten without the views it got from being featured in an ad.

Of course in the grand scheme of things, numberfagging doesn't even fucking matter, so it's just a bunch of crazed anons going schizo in a containment thread.

Pretty sure you've misunderstood, the question is more for what NijiEN did for their waves + original songs.
I say there is nothing wrong with it given the context(trying to break the near-monopoly Hololive has in the EN algorithm), but you aren't going to reach people who aren't already interested in v-tubers that way. You also risk (minor) people considering you obnoxious leeches if you overdo it, but since NijiJP only did it for baseball and EN only does it to let people know their waves are releasing (pretty short period), I doubt people will care long-term.

Anon of the monthly views/time ranks here. Since I had some free time, I collected the July data ahead of time for about 50 top vtubers, for the first 24 days of the month. I'm not gonna bother posting the whole charts because it needs to be completed with many vtubers missing + the remaining days of the month anyways, but if anybody is curious how's it going so far, see picture.
All the debuts, plus perhaps ayame and haachama, may fall with further streams, and honestly I doubt anyone will be able to beat marine`s killer month. Pekora and Kuzuha already got over 30+ videos to dilute any great new results, and gura doesn't seem to be planning anything special either. Either way, it will be interesting to see how things turn out with 1 more week.

It used to be that MVs were promotional material for the artist's albums, but that has long since stopped being the case and are now more a vehicle for the artist's own self expression. The Internet became a thing, and with it came platforms like YouTube, iTunes, Netflix and Spotify where there user pretty much has complete control over what content they consume and they make it very easy to get rid of ads by simply paying to get rid of them or outright not serving them.

People (especially in the west) don't want to associate their regular content as "promotional content" unless they're doing actual sponsorships or actually part of a greater collection of content. Ads are considered to be nuisance, so the association gets attached to the material used to promote it unless it has an actually interesting hook. There's nothing more annoying than a PragerU or a "self-starter" dudes that have tricks to make yourself rich because their video-as-advertisement are often longer than the content that they advertise on. It's that annoying as shit and ads being plastered all over the place in a video that led to the advent of the AdBlock add-ons in the first palce, and it's why YouTube got wise and recommended ads be shorter so they're unskippable and allows you to skip anything longer than 5 seconds.

RE8 is another similar example where it was FOTM and Holos have played it to death. Botan got 16-17k playing RE8 when it first came out. Honestly, Gen 5 is much more grounded and should be an example of a perfect balanced gen. Lamy with the GFE, Nene with the Idol dork in the gen, Polka being the person with initiative to pull off skits/covers weekly and Botan being the variety gamer with a tone of connections. She may be an FPS pro before, but she doesn't depend on that title to push her streams. Leos exudes the same vibe as her and made the right choice not to play Apex in the first week. Lauren and Alex is already setting themselves to be on chihiro's level which isn't bad, but not as people expect them to be chronoir 2.0. Apex won't get you that far.

That being said, she's still getting like 12k peak playing these games so it's still good numbers wise.

I'm just going to use Kuzuha as an example since he's the most popular FPS vtuber (ironically not because of his FPS skills). His FPS games are like 70% Apex, 27% Valorant, 3% misc. Every numberfag knows Kuzuha Apex is like 25k+, but his valorant numbers bounce between 12k and 20k+ depending on the title of his stream (sometimes he puts Apex and then plays Valorant and vice versa) or if its a valorant tourney.

EOP pandering is actually quite complicated and potentially overrated. Just look at HoloJPs. Flare posts a lot on the Hololive sub and panders hard to EOPs (she even translated some of her tweets to english and reads English superchats aloud), but her subgrowth is still at best average for HoloJP. Roboco collabs with HoloEN the most and has shown decent English comprehension, being able to act as a bridge between Ame and Towa during their Apex collab, but her CCVs hasn't changed in a year. Being entertaining and getting dedicated channels to clip and sub your streams is more impactful.

I don't know where NijiEN+NijiJP's EN fanbase is situated (NijiJP's being minimal), but the core of HoloJP+EN's English engaged fanbase is on that subreddit. I agree with what you said about Flare, but that's mostly because she's stupid about appealing to EOPs and didn't do it the smart way, but Roboco has definitely inclined since she started appealing to EOPs. She used to be a 1k holo, now she pulls between 2-3k for most streams and can go all the way up to 6k if she streams uncontested.
There's also the example of Suisei who shows that you can in fact incline massively if you are smart about appealing to EOPs.

Yes, many Holofans have a hako-oshi mindset where they adore hololive as a whole. I wouldn't say everyone subscribes to every holomem (Gura has 3.1 mil subs and almost 2x as much as 2nd place), but it is more likely than not for a holofan to sub to more than one member due to intra-company collabs. For reddit, engagement is as easy as a click. So eventho I don't watch Roboco, I like her for collabing with holos I like so I'll upvote her sub milestone post.
