Maybe. We don't really know anything about the problem aside from her computer shuts off. It could be a lot of things, including a faulty power supply. Or maybe more issues if its a faulty power supply that has ruined other components. She also mentioned having a temperature gauge visible from through her case window, so she might have changed her cooling system, since there's AIO coolers with temperatures shown on a screen. If she did that she might not have installed it correctly. E.g. not removing all the old thermal compound, or not correctly applying the new compound, not attaching the cooler correctly, not plugging it in right, etc.

Thermal paste was my first assumption as well. When applying it and then attaching the cooling unit to the motherboard it's real easy to fuck up. Even one little air bubble in that silvery shit is enough to make your computer freak out about temperature.

The only NZXT prebuild that had the 3090 at the time she got it would've been the one Ame got. It doesn't have a cooler with a display so she swapped out the cooler at least.

The way she phrased it makes it obvious there was no BSOD, but a complete shutdown. I agree that the RAM theory is tenuous at best. When RAM goes bad it usually does other stuff like freeze the system or BSOD's it. Still, worth the mention.

Old laptops can go bad primarily from mobo related issues, so I doubt that's the issue here. It would be... both arcane and a kind of oddity in this case. The safest bet remains the PSU, as in it's an electrical issue.

But it really is like that one Anon mentioned. PC's can be unpredictable, stubborn pieces of shit where one moment everything is fine and the other you're left with an unresponsive metal scrap and some obscure issue that takes a day to find and fix. This happens much less if you aren't a gamer and use Linux (like me). I stopped using Windows after XP, but Gura probably doesn't have that luxury due to vtubing and games.

Also I don't understand and can't make peace with the fact zoomers pimp out their PC cases with faggot lights and actually have RBG keyboards and so on. It's just so gaudy and infantile. I just don't get it. The beige box is the pinnacle of computer aesthetics, and its discretion and unobtrusiveness is something to strive for. Then again, my keyboard is a 1995 Mitsumi, and its box proudly proclaims that it's Win 95 compatible.

It's most likely a nxzt AIO closed loop cooler. They are very common and have a display on the cpu block. Also the thermal paste is pre applied so idk what the deal is . Maybe she didn't install it right?
If she wants a silent PC she'll have to replace the case and aio fans with something like like nocturas, and get a case with sound insulation like a Fractal Design refine.

Actual sound proofing is a pain in the ass to pull of that usually involves lots of incredibly dense materials and air gapped rooms. Those booths usually just attenuate ambient noise a little and reduce echo, but it'd still be possible to hear other noises.

No, there's no GPU loop. The theory is she replaced the CPU cooler with something that has more bling and a temperature display, plus a number of unspecified parts. The new parts are a complete unknown other than the cooler.
The way to reduce sound would be to accept a higher temperature since cooling efficiency increases proportionally with temperature but I doubt Gura knows that and just bought a more expensive cooler.

i love my fractal design case for a lot of reasons, noise being one of them. but even with the case fans on the lowest setting, the system under exremely low load, and with my mic positioned so that the PC is in the least sensitive area of the pattern, i can still clearly hear it in the monitor signal. i wouldn't be surprised if she were still trying to get rid of noise for that reason. but i insist that ever since she got it off the desk into the place it's been for the past month or two, there's no fan noise problem. it's as solved as it's going to be.
