As a viewer, please for the love of god do not fall for the character larp. The only people who actually believe vtubers play characters are either people who
1) think that certain vtubers aren't actually as fucking bizarre as they actually are
2) think tongue in cheek comedic lip service and inside jokes based on the model that you use for comedy count as maintaining character
3) think that having a vtuber avatar at all means you are a character(this one baffles me the most and always has)
4) Unironically believe thst you are an anime character frfr
5) Believe that you changing your voice and sticking to one of the mannerisms you are capable of is you literally rewriting your identity instead of simply defaulting to a preferred style of presentation/communication(something everyone does all the time everywhere at all times, except in this case you can present yourself as a loli catgirl instead of a respectable member of society)
Vtubing is distinct enough from streaming to be its own niche, but what a vtuber model isn't is literally the mask from, well, The Mask movie
Do not fall for the character trap
DO take advantage of the different ways you can play around with being an 'anime girl'. But of all the things a vtuber might end up overinvesting themselves in, I can say that their "character" is absolutely not something I've seen more than once and it was far from pleasant.
Remember that people watch real people playing anime girls instead of actual anime girls for a reason. Think less "character", more "bit". And for God's fucking sake, do not do it if it doesn't sound fun or interesting to you to play up to some level. Better no bit or character at all than one you force yourself into.
