I really don't get how the money works in this industry, from what I thought I knew with general streaming years ago with just a few hundred people watching and a dedicated core a person can make a living. There are more non-streaming staff than there are streamers in all these corpos. It's a capitalistic principle, they invested money to make the ecosystem where Hololive is possible. And I don't just mean intangibles, they invest into tangible assets, the big studio, the smaller studios before the big new one, 500 staff on payroll and everything involved with that, yearly events like the fes that builds the fanbase. That is their investment that is the basis of them taking a cut with from the talent. They are not a charity, they expect a return on their other investments to the talent such as the outfits and concerts etc. Each single holo would not be as successful without this ecosystem, but in turn Cover would not be as successful without them, so it's a situation where two hands wash each other.

You could make an argument on how much of a split would be justified but in the end that has to be a case by case basis depending on how much the talent works, and they themselves have to negotiate their own terms. I have heard that holos can negotiate their youtube cuts after the initial year but I don't have any sources besides hearsay from here.
