I think Kanae tried tarkov first when it was released in Japanese and of course he's a beast at FPS so he's doing well. Then, he helped to get Hajime and the vamp guy into tarkov too. Honestly, without a good fps base it's difficult even for Kanae to carry people in that game, contrary to apex or pubg. It really hurts me to watch Kanae play shitty mobage or mahong because that's what a good part of the nijisanji audience wants...

Battle royale has been a thing among vtubers since PUBG days. PUBG was absolutely massive in Asia during 2017-2018, the same time most vtuber started. If a gaming focus vtuber wanted to build a viewerbase during that time, PUBG would be the obvious first choice. Majority of them collabed with other vtuber to build viewerbase. Then the first vtuber tournament happened (hololive girls incl. Aqua also participated), everyone got a small boost from that. After playing a completely new genre game and actually competing with other vtuber, most of them got addicted to battle royale. Apex is just a better version of PUBG.

You can see how getting to compete with other vtuber make them addicted to the game. For example after the recent tournament, FBK started streaming Apex a lot more than before. One more thing is the vtuber (PUBG back then, now APEX) tournament is by far the most popular gaming event in the vtuber world, so they want to get better at it to show good performance there.
