just keep it calm? you can use things like mattresses, cushions and blankets to cover places where sound can leak like windows and doors. you'll never be able to get soundPROOFing, but you can use a lot of cushiony materials to absorb most of the vibrations from your speech.

but it really shouldn't be that bad unless you're getting worked up and screaming. just keep your mic close to your face so casual speech is picked up clearly

You can buy cheap foam from a hobby/arts store and glue it to cheap insulation that's held in cheap wood frames and that makes for pretty good sound traps. Make sure they're off the walls at least an inch since that helps capture more sound. Also, stream from the deepest part of your flat.

My upcoming season vids tend to do way better, but I think I'll change it to be more of an informative thing. May keep the part where I do a slight judgement on if I think it'll be good depending on the studio/staff though. I tend to have enough knowledge for that sort of thing.

Anyone got any suggestions for different ways of using reactive pngs for collabs than discord?

Mine is absolutely shitting the bed right now if I use the standard one, and Streamkits apparently doesn't work on the PTB, so I'm unable to do a planned collab this weekend.

If I join a server call, and there's a pause in audio input from everyone, then I seem to get temporarily deafened in the call for a short while. Sometimes, when it restarts, I get a burst of sound. I'd thought it could be a wifi issue, but nothing else is having problems

Okay, so you get a server set-up. Doesn't matter which one - you could set up a hidden server for collabs, or use your generic one for fans, but with a hidden voicechat. Also have a hidden text channel where you paste the pngs, and then use the standard png code.

For the more complex ones, from what I've seen, it's another browser source, but I'm not sure on the specifics. I'm not particularly interested in collabs in general at this stage though, so haven't actually checked it out.Probably a tutorial on YT. Failing that, use this as an excuse for networking - reach out to your Oshi, and ask if they could lend a hand in getting this set up with you, because you saw they did it and can't figure it out.

Kongou seems to do well, but I think most use it as opportunity to do bits/jokes and as a layer of protection for their personal information, filtering whatever they say through a character lens so it is less identifying. You could filter normally, but making it a character is gonna be easier since you have a specific mindset involved.

Idgaf because I wasn’t stupid enough to make my character anything but an exaggerated version of myself. I streamed a long time ago before I became a vtuber so I already knew how much mental load just streaming itself actually is, and would never stack the pressure of “staying in character” on top of that.
Also remember you can’t spend an hour typing up those “witty” kayfabe responses like on social when you’re live, and if your social persona is totally diff from stream that’s shit branding. Just let the character be set dressing and leave it at that.

Literally every stream I keep finding my eyes going back to the viewer counter, post stream I check out my stats on TT and SG and I keep comparing my stats to other vtubers in my circle to see who I’m performing better and worse than.

I've aimed to make my 'character' pretty much just me, but maybe slightly exaggerated in some areas and downplayed in others got to hide my powerlevel, because sometimes you see people screw up 'kayfabe', which they backtrack or bounce around to fix, and that's a lot of effort.

I wasn't expecting anything but criticism from my friends, since we're pretty cynical about everything. The fact they did some criticism AND still liked it means I'm doing something worth watching.
I was so hyped for the rest of the day I barely slept. If editing wasn't a long, long process of cutting down a 5+ hour video into a 15 minutes one with music, effects and a script, I would've finished it already with that confidence boost.

The design was a mixture of things. Some of my old larp clothes (the tunic and pants) combined with parts of cultural heritage I really enjoy. Then I took all that and bastardized it with things I just find sexy like the facial hair, bare arms and fang. My voice had nothing to do with it and I may change my voice for redebut.
Picking the artist was easy. I stumbled across Aki Mizuno and found the artist making his merch art was just starting to make Live2D models so it was just lucky timing.
Before my first stream my Twitter was just lore and model images. I explained the meanings of the heritage items and what my type was and that was it. I also replied to A TON of networking threads but never made my own because I was afraid they'd flop.
Lots of experience working around fudanshi and fujoshi. I said to /asp/ies before VTubing I was an anime reviewer and let's player just faceless and the shounen ai shows were kind of my thing since no-one else touched them.
No tail. I love the collars but get weirded out when people get too sexual with me out of nowhere when I post stuff like that and me and the Cait-sidh are friends nowadays.

Well of course because the recruiters don't have time for all that. If your video is trash then there's a small chance your numbers will save you, but it's not guaranteed. Although Selen only spent 30 minutes editing her video I'm sure her personality came through loud and clear in the recording and the proceeding clips she included. I've said this before but I'm sure most existing streamers include their best clips in auditions, which is something they should already have someplace if they were moderately successful. I'd like to think it only took her 30 minutes to put her video together since she had already put in the work to develop her persona and have an assortment of clips prepared beforehand.

I didn't get much attention on my lore posts honestly. When just starting out, soul wrenching as it is networking threads and just replying to other fun posts are your best bet. Images, especially of your model or art of the VTuber are great no matter what.
For the furen crowd I've found it's just best to have fun with it. I flirt continuously with male and female VTubers alike and do the same with fictional characters. There's definitely an untapped BFE mine in the western world. Nijisanji JP make bank with their voice specials and merch but other than the woman who calls everyone her kittens I don't know of any western male VTubers going for that style. My friends give me some shit about some of the things I post on Twitter but my streams are chill and I've never had another VTuber be anything other than supportive so far. There's a lot of people in my DMs asking for collabs but since I mainly do readthroughs it's hard to chose things we can do together on stream. The 18+ stuff seems to be gaining traction but it isn't a realm I'll be exploring. Just check out Austin Veed and Seikyuu VA and you can see how they're growing audiences with 18+ male content. The latter makes tons of money just rehashing yaoi tropes for fans.

I have just crossed five weeks of streaming (2 scheduled, up to 2 guerrilla p/w). The greatest gains I've seen are when I've been ACTIVELY networking on twitter. Not just "I'm going live, click [here]".

You need to search up the tags you're using (use tags, by the way. #vtuber, #envtuber, #vtuberen, vtuberuprising are relatively active). Take part in 'drop your png' threads, and talk with the other people there - ask questions about their designs, overlays, whatever.

My personal goal whenever I take part in one of them is to look for two other chuubas who have good content (either twitter shitposting, or streams), and start a conversation in comments. Follow them on Twitch and Twitter, interact with a few of their other posts (over time, don't be a weird stalker), and consider DMing them for help on art. People *can* be very receptive if you DM them with something along the lines of "I love your character sheet! I was looking to get one done, and your artist did a great job, especially on the [detail you like]. Could you tell me who did it?"

I like to tweet out my clips following stream, and I'll schedule them, so that they go out about once or twice a day. Means I don't have to worry about doing it whilst I'm at work/asleep

There's two more points I consider important, but I am autistic, so take them with a grain of salt. I've seen other people completely disregard them:

- Your six most recent pieces of media will show up in your profile. I try to make sure that I don't have the same picture for any two in a row, or the 1st and 4th, because then they'd be next to each other and it looks weird.

- Have announcement banners for each category you do on stream, and possibly for each different stream you do.
I do Stardew Valley, so have a farmer with my face photoshopped on.
I did a guerrilla SDV, so got a gorilla and photoshopped him to hold farming tools and have my face.
I've got a Dead By Daylight one, where I'm wearing my killer's mask and holding their weapon.
I've got a Monster Hunter one, where I'm holding a Hunting Horn from the game.
All of these are then split into component parts, and each part saved individually, so as time goes on, I can start pulling these together MUCH quicker. I spent a few hours making my first guerilla announcement (I could have spent that time streaming, tbf), but then all my subsequent ones have a transparent image of a gorilla wearing my face, which stands out a bit, in a twitter feed.
All of these have my link in the image, as well as bright text over the top describing what I'm doing in stream. I make sure that Twitter DOESN'T crop the image at all, or if it does, to only crop out very unimportant bits at the sides. So make sure your image is nearly in the right format.

Streamlabs as a source for widgets is fine.

StreamlabsOBS, is fucking garbage, because they collect way more data on your than they really need, and most of their plugins can be done with 3-4 minutes of effort in OBS Studio without all that data collection and tracking.

I haven't actually thought that far ahead about what character I'd even be playing (if any). I just really wanted to start pumping out episodes in my series so I could point people in that direction and have visual proof that shadow magic deserves more attention and love from the devs. I figured using a themed png I made for free would be better for getting that out than waiting on the money for both a facecam + model commision and a mic right now

Is anybody already working on an audition video for the next nijiEN generation? I applied for gen 2, but they haven't watched my video yet and I'm losing hope that they will, and instead of dwelling on it I want to be proactive so I can be an early submission for next time.

Some things I'd like to improve on is marketing myself better. Any tips on how to do this? I already try to make tweets with images or videos alongside other content (clip compilations or just straight clip rips onto youtube), but do you guys have any more tips? I'd like to try and network more but I don't want to look/feel like a leech, you know? Any suggestions/tips?

Are high-quality VRoid models viable? Why is Live2D considered so much better? Live2D definitely is more expensive, but the rigging on a lot of them is pretty bad unless it's IronVertex or something.

Live2d is considered better because that's what the holo and niji girls used. Before vroid, 3d models were way too expensive and were the highest tier. After Vroid anyone could get one and so vroid models have a bad reputation because of shitty models. High-tier custom-made 3d-models are still considered the highest tier over most Live2d models. That's why you see a lot of the more popular streamers getting them or newer ones that come out the bat with them becoming mega-popular. Picky has a vroid model, and it looks fantastic, mostly because she's an actual artist. There's a couple of twitter threads and youtube videos about how to make good-looking vroids, and I've combined some resources in a pastebin about a week ago. https://pastebin.com/Ax7XhPeH

Cloudbot (as part of Nightbot) also can be configured to announce followers/raids in chat, which is REALLY helpful. You can also use the alertbox widget for pop-ups for the same, too, and viewers do seem to like it
