This. I was watching a vtuber with a voice changer because s/he was the only one playing a certain game, but gender was never disclosed, so it kept eating at me until I just had to drop the channel. For me, babiniku is okay. Most voice changers end up sounding quite bad and grating, but there are a couple of exceptions that manage to be pretty cute actually. Oren-chan is pretty fun and loves interacting with chat and her (his) voice actually sounds kinda cute. (Pic related)
I think the difference is, some babiniku actually try to raise their voice and speak cutely, whereas others just speak normally and try to let the voice actor do all the work.

But personally, my favorite type is just a /cm/ male or otokonoko vtuber with a cute design and soothing / 優しい voice who is not actually pretending to be a girl. Holostars' Miyabi is a good example of this and so was Kira. I also follow an indie that fits this description, but he has live viewership between 10 and 30 and I don't want his chat to be flooded with 4chan EOPs (like myself) so I selfishly don't share his identity when posting on /vt/.
