If you shrink the field of competition, it's easier to stand out. The virtue signalling brownie points are just a bonus. If the event fails, even better because now you have another grievance to work off of. None of this is even strictly malicious, just good marketing strategy.

Ok, I'll bite for funsies:
How do they even decide who's "black" and eligible in the first place?
Do they go with "vtuber model must be black" (what about shades of brown?), irrespective of the actual person behind it? So potentially someone who's not even actually black could win, lmao.
Or do they go with "actual person behind the vtuber avatar must be black", irrespective of the model they present. Which is also lmao because isn't one of the primary attractions of vtubing the anonymity it affords, that you can hide behind a character and don't need to let everyone know how you look? Though to be fair, the type of people who'd enter such award schemes are probably already more attention-hungry in the first place.
And extra lmao also if most of the winning "black vtubers" ended up just generic white/asian anime vtuber avatars anyways, because that's where the market is.

Oh well, I ended up thinking harder about this than probably the creator did, who probably just wanted a little circlejerk/self-boosting scheme for themselves and their circle of 1view niggas
