TL;DR - Stalker's started hiding airtags in the gifts they sent streamers to try and find their houses.
Airtags are supposed to be used to stick on phones and keys and shit and you can find their location on your phone.
They're about the size of 2 US quarters stacked on top of each other so super easy to hide in shit.

If they really wanted they could get a bluetooth scanner/detector, basically have a room with no electronic devices specifically for gift storage and have the scanner at the door and then have staff open and manually scan each item for electronic signals. The others have a limited battery life since they're "always-on" so you can just store them for like a month to wait it out.
