also yes this requires you to understand 100+ heroes and each of their 400+ skills and how they wor, in addition to like 200+ items each with their own niche
like e.g. if you are against alchemist you have to remember that his ability gives him massive hp regen so you have to remember to buy the item that cripples his hp regen. A lot of heroes are balanced against whether you can counter them with items and how hard it is to get that item.
it's why they say the first 100 hours you play in dota is barely the tutorial
