Important Business Call Edition

Two days in a row of Melody + Mouse collabs are a great way to create a backlog of vods to check out. Three if you count the script reading of "The Room" that everyone participated in on Thursday. Last night the dynamic duo set out on the task of reviewing applications to see who would be allowed to become part of the Queen of Hell's illustrious reverse harem. The pair went through only about... three. Mostly because they got distracted talking about and ranking various hentai tags. An endeavor that took about four hours. While not the most interesting to watch live, it is fantastic background noise fodder and entertaining to listen through.

Which is good, because today's set to be another slow one. Sundays are always our fairly dead days as many of the girls take it off. So catch up on backlogged vods or watch one of the sparse streams to happen today. I'm not sure which is more interesting for you, make your own choices! We'll be into the meat of the week soon enough once we get some more schedules and can see what is in store. Right now the only big one we know about is a Melody collab that is sure to be very interesting.

A slow day means a short summary. Particularly when only one stream happened between the last thread and this one. But slow days are comfy as fuck so do your part to make sure this own thread stays comfy by ignoring bait, and being excellent to each other.

Well, the only reason anything happens is if someone reaches out for opportunities, opening lines of communication and such. I would image both sides are full of people who just don't do that. Meanwhile, Mouse gives no fucks (she does, but she would rather try and fail than not at all) and will reach out and that's why she's got so many varied collabs. I think we'll start seeing a bit more of it now with the second gen of Niji-EN out there. The first gen is pretty free to do what it wants, if Pomu's collab with Melody of all people means anything.

Melody, who had to sit by while the girls collabed with Ai, who was rejected outright by HL for anything, is perfectly okay to Niji (and honestly dozens of other YouTubers and influencers who don't give a fuck about her CB porn star status). I'd say that if Niji wanted to collab they just have to ask, or the girls ask them. Seems like the door has never actually been closed and needed to be opened.

it obviously sucks that river died, and the fight was just brutal, but it may actually have been the best thing that could have happened. they dove in at the deep end and, despite their mistakes etc, you could see them starting to improve by the end of it. plus it proved without a shadow of a doubt that there are actual stakes, which is what they wanted from a main campaign, with a big dramatic moment that solidified them in the campaign. it was cool to see just how much they cared.

I think the monster had insane rolls when it mattered most.
It instantly jumped out of the broken ice lake. It hit River with both attacks when River used the dodge action. The boss kept rolling the Aoe damage scream for the random bonus action towards the end of the fight when the players were near death and really needed a turn to restabilize.

I don't think the boss was poorly balanced though. They did kill it and they made a few mistakes in the fight and had some unlucky rolls in bad situations. They had a choice. Fight the ones outside or flee to the cave. They made the Mines of Moria decision and got Balrog'd. anon, the first fucking rule of dnd is to not give your boss flat damage stacking because it complicates the encounter immediately and takes away from the whole dice-rolling aspect. flat damage stacks are only for specific actions or high level (read; like level 10) boss-fights. when the cap is 10 and the trigger is any and EVERY attack roll, its a shit fight by default
remove that and you'd have a genuinely well balanced fight; even rework rage a bit into something that gives GWM to the boss or something after a certain point, and make the triggered actions a reaction or maybe even giving him two reactions and you have a fight where you actively want to get his rage up in order to spread out the possibilities of his attack types, going from a d2 to d4 to d7 on "hmm, which attack will I do today" chart. genuinely would have been an interesting fight if he did something like that

Yes, they made the choice to avoid the encounter outside, which might have been an easier first "no tutorial" fight. Again, what is Arc supposed to do? Suddenly have the mist enemies surround them out of nowhere when they were never in position to do that in the first place? DMs get criticized for locking people into situations. It's better to give the players choices and options, even if they don't know what those choices will lead to. They have to learn that they control what they do, not Arc. If they'd tried to evaluate the situation outside better they might have had a better understanding of it instead of fleeing. They have to learn that not everything is as it seems at first, which is also what the boss fight was supposed to teach them.

That was it. The dude made some dumb mistake three times, and suddenly he had a target on his back. So what is the problem? The characters without cold damage attacks had a way to contribute towards lowering the rage stacks by attacking the ice the boss is standing on. They just thought they wouldn't need to do it a second time which was a mistake. If they break the ice a second time and reset the rage stacks to 0 a second time they win that fight easily.
