Vtubing in general is about being fake as fuck. Sure they might be sad now their friend got fired suddenly, but how much did they care about her beforehand? The world basically moved on already and Mel's 5 years in the company just suddenly vanished. Puts it into perspective just how temporary the job and the connections really are. There's no "family" or "friends" in this business, because it's just that- a business. If Mel is out, someone else will take her place eventually.

An extra hit of reality for you: in Japan, when you leave a group (work group, recreational activity group, etc) you are basically treated coldly because you're no longer part of their one unit, you become an outsider. The way to handle friendships in japan is EXTREMELY autistic and full of hazy rules. Over time, the rest of the girls will basically forget Mel was ever a thing. This part may not apply to western vtubers but it certainly does to japanese ones.
