I'm glad other people are recognizing how fucking defensive Kiara's fanbase has become.

Yes she's a great girl yes she's really funny and cares a lot about her fanbase and yes she's successful and better than ever and makes a shitton of money

Anime tends to play on tropes and themes that are relevant to an younger audience. The trepidations of first love or "I'm going to take the world straight on!" lose their luster after awhile. There are more adult-oriented ones being produces, of course, but they're fewer, in-between and you no longer have the time to go over the season to see what's good or not. Also the "friendship" theme that is central to the vast majority of anime produce takes a nosedive once you finish college.
I still watch now and then, but it's nothing compared to what I was watching as a teen or in my 20s

Any show or movie, whether animated or otherwise, can provide escapism. When I was young, Star Wars was my go-to franchise for escapism because I wanted to go on adventures in space and shit.
I still enjoy media like that now as an adult, but if I want something more contemplative that better reflects my current lifestyle//struggles/ambitions/etc., then it's very difficult to get it out of anime because anime is mostly targeted towards younger audiences. Also, arguably more important than anime's target demographic in terms of age is the target demographic in terms of nationality. Anime is made by Japanese people for Japanese people (mostly) and it is made with their cultural sensibilities in mind. While those are not always entirely foreign to us of course, sometimes we want something a little closer to home from our entertainment.

Last show I watched was The Queen's Gambit. I have my complaints about it of course (mostly regarding some overly Hollywoodian aspects of it), but I greatly enjoyed it because it was made to appeal to fans of chess like myself and it went a little deeper into the "mechanics" of chess than I would've thought. I also really liked the Cold War backdrop, especially since I have stories from members of my family who have gone to watch tournaments exactly like these back when they were young.
To my knowledge, there's no anime about chess or the Cold War.
