The story and writing is better in Frieren but I don't like the world building in either. Just not a fan of the dragonquest aesthetic with that every jap manga seems to be based on. Frieren isn't based on DQ, but it does do a lot of copying from Western fantasy so it's not really novel and there's no deeper explanation for things like magic or doing what would be superhuman feats so it's not that particularly imaginative. Most of it is building a mood via location and circumstance which people may dislike a bit given it is a bit formulaic and then longer arcs going full shounen. It's just a solid fantasy manga/anime that doesn't involve isekai that hasn't been done in quite a while. The last time there was something like this was Made in Abyss and that was like 2017-18 (yes, I know S2 was like 2 years ago).
