Also civil defamation suits are a lot easier to win in Japan. Even if something is true if it did or could potentially harm someone's reputation there's a 90% chance they'll win.
Literally my favorite example was when a journalist found out that Japan had a drug abuse problem in the wrestling industry, published an article about it and then got sued for hurting their reputation even though they were indeed using illegal substances in wrestling.

Japanese laws are fuckin retarded and I'd be shocked shitless if anycolor lost the defamation suit.

Niji tried to claim that those she was being harassed by had caused her to suffer damages. In order to convince a court of that, they made her not stream. However, because she was still selling voice packs the courts decided this was not the case. Niji has had her on salary and unable to work for three years for nothing. Effectively knee-capping her career in vtubing entirely.
I hope the checks Niji was giving her were worth it.
