But to answer the question, live streaming of bad gameplay and other "familiar" content sort of levels the field, in the sense that the disconnect that is usually present between an entertainer and its audience is lessened; 3D lives reinstate that disconnect.

I don't actually "watch" streams. I listen while I'm busy doing less intensive tasks. So 3D offers no benefits, and chat talking shit to the streamer for sucking is always fun. Or even just handcams where the streamer is assembling weeb figurines and shit is fine too.

When you think about it vtubers are just like us.
They could have gone the way of classic idol getting stalked by paparazzi and normalfags everywhere like garbage celebs but they didn't, they chose anonymity. Of course retards will argue everyone knows Matsuri, Noel or Towa face and identity but that's because they couldn't just delete their past life away from Hololive.
But think about Suisei, about Shion or Pekora. They could just sneak around in public or at popular events, even Hololive ones and no one would recognize them. Even though they might be more famous than everyone present, they just be completely hidden, no star ego, they can just live in peace with no one giving a shit about who they are outside of their realm. Some hoshiyomi probably witness Suisei buying food at their nearby Konbini and had no idea about it.
