Going to debut and then start the content grind.

Get good enough at art to maybe start doing commissions of my own? Beyond that, just have fun. Maybe try for a world record speedrun?

Video editing and asset creation. I'm making everything but my model and rig, myself and I have basically no experience with Photoshop and After Effects. All things considered tho, I think I'm doing really well.

Average viewers.

I honestly don't care either way. I doubt I'll 'track' them beyond posting here for comparison with other /asp/s.

I care less about 'making it' and more about making -- if not interesting than fun -- content. I think learning a speedrun and going for record could be a fun idea. Maybe have my chat choose the game? Secondly, I want to sculpt something in zBrush worthy of 3D printing.
>7- With what you've learned so far, what's some advice you would have told yourself?
Don't get Scarlet Solo. I followed a 'guide' I found on youtube for a 'basic streaming audio setup'. I still fight with my mic and Scarlet to get anything decent. I'm pretty sure my 5 year old gamer headset gave better/more consistent audio. Maybe if I knew more about audio tech I could make it better, but as it stands I have it 'just good enough' and it's likely to stay that way forever.

don't be afraid to put together a rough sketch, no matter how crude, when you are looking to commission an artist! include many details to help them out and they'll take care of the rest!

The image on the left already has the composition and framing already in his head, which is helpful sure, but it implies the customer has a decent idea how to design an image. While its a stick figure, I highly doubt that was the extent of the customer's knowledge of art and he just downgraded it to be ironic.

why would you commission an artist if you don't know what you want? sounds like pulling an expensive gacha roll and waiting 2+ weeks to get a character design that you may or may not like depending on the result.

I might have a general idea how I want something, but there's not a specific image I want, I want the concept done not the image. Thus I rely on the better artist for the composition and framing, and more important for clothing design because I suck at that part.

the two closest examples you'll get are Admiral Bahroo whose vtuber model is a panda that's held by an anime girl as visual eye candy that's been streaming for 8+ years who has a following of over 100,000 fans. or BungoTaiga, who expressly appeals to coomerbrains with the femboy angle.

Thumbnails and deciding composition is one of the most important parts of drawing. If you fuck it up you'll have to throw away hours of work. If you can just point a finger and blame someone else for deciding it it means you can skip any worry and just regurgitate the same boring figure you've drawn 1000 times.

I really want to believe that anon that said what sold Finana to Niji was her written application since she was kind of a nobody compared to Pomu and Elira. I botched my audition audio and it just keeps eating me. I introduced myself instead of making my character introduction and then LARPed as the character.

For names, you're best picking your theme first and then finding names that suit. For example, Moth Mom/Juniper is pretty clever since Thera Juniperata is a type of moth.

If I were naming some of the Niji girls we were auditioning for though...

Ghost - Viole Ghossamer (sheer fabric theme)
Cat Witch - Umbra Mesmer (sounds mysterious and mesmer for mesmerism)
Bird - Gallie Remiges (from Galon and feather term)

Just make sure it sounds cute if it's a girl.

I went with this, it's so dumb but I'm weirdly proud of it. Phonetic reading is just a lame pun, and in writing I choose to leave it in hiragana because with the kanji options it could be written in it still makes a reference to the theme of the character.

I follow a lot of the agencies and some are definitely legit and do a lot to support talents. Just do your research for the existing ones, and for new ones it's hard to tell obviously but if you do go for it, make sure you're asking the right questions when interviewing and don't sign anything without a serious read.
It's not for everyone but agencies seen to do some people a lot of good and even the smaller ones come with their own clout. A standout example is Shiki who's almost at 30k after a couple weeks, after having 2k subs as an indie.

There's three approaches I have, and they all seem to sort of work.

1 - "networking threads"
Find a networking tweet, reply with your own PNG. Reply to some of the others, drop a few follows, chat about what you like on some of the designs

2 - Tag search
Look up Vtuber/VtuberUprising/ENVtuber/VtuberEN, find people of a similar size to yourself (order of magnitudish. Don't go for Gura if you've got 100 followers). Follow them, and comment on a recent post or two.
Might also be worth trying with your game's tag, although there's a lot of non-chuubas

3 - Zig-zag
Find a vtuber you do like who's too big for you to reach out to without clout chasing.
Look through their followers for people tagged as chuubas at a similar level to you. They share an interest with you already, so you have a basis to work from.

Interact with them slowly. Don't like and retweet all their stuff. But if they have a question, or it's something you can honestly relate to, then go for it.

I've found shitty mspaint memes can work wonders. In fact, low quality might be good here, because it shows you're embracing the scuffed quality that comes with being new and small; whilst allowing growth.

That's part of it yeah, getting their audience to see your stuff.

But it's also getting the other chuubas into your stream, and liking you enough to raid you.

I raided yesterday with the 4 people I had at the end of stream. I'd planned on going to one of the people I'd found on Twitter, but she'd had to cancel her stream.

If I had gone to her, she'd have had double her audience (to begin with, at least), and maybe gained an extra follower or two out of it. And then if she streams at a different time, she might pass her viewers on to me.

Apparently, based on stats people werequoting a few threads back, the viewer:streamer ratio used to be ~30:1, but is now pretty close to 1.5:1

So a chunk of your audience are going to be streamers. You need to appeal to them, and they'll bring their own audience as well (maybe through hosting, or the like, too).

Not a bad idea. Maybe a blog post that accompanies each stream? So for my barbershop recording streams, I could give a quick musical breakdown of how the process works, history of the piece, for a reading stream, I could give light analysis of the text (especially for poetry), background on whatever game I'm playing. That ties in pretty well with my idea of being a professor. Thanks anon, I think I'll start a blog to run parallel with my channel and Twitter.

I have a lot of experience breaking down those concepts for a general audience. The way I think of it, you should explain things like you're talking to an interested twelve year old. If you can communicate concepts at that level, then even complex topics, like music theory, or poetry, stop being intimidating, and can capture interest. The blog probably wouldn't get a ton of readership, but frankly, it wouldn't take me long to write up posts to accompany each stream, and it just gives one more avenue of engagement for interested viewers. I do want my streams to be at least a little bit educational, when possible, after all.

This. I've made a lot of friends (not "friends", genuine friends who I talk to on and off of Twitter) with a lot of vtubers significantly bigger than me. I don't like to ask them to do things like collab, because I feel like a burden being so much smaller, but it was all through natural engagement. Twitter, Chat, Discord, etc. It just takes a handful of friends to start being included in things, I'm at the point where all the new people I meet now are just friends of friends. It helps create a solid "Network" that's actually natural and not forced.

People find this hard or confusing to do because they're autistic as fuck though and think they can @ silvervale over and over til she noticed you. You need to be told how to make friends, you probably never will

Some of them I have, early on. I don't have to do that as often any more since I'm usually just introduced to people via more private friend-group discords and impromptu invites to collabs.

Keep in mind I'm a small hobbyist, all of you are probably going to be bigger than me a lot faster as well, but you need to know how to make friends and socialize. I get it's hard being social for a lot of people into this hobby, but fake it til you make it. There's no harm in replying to a tweet by someone similar in size to you, people like positive interaction especially if you actually mean it.

I've been streaming on and off for about 7 years on my old account at maybe 5-10 hours a week, never built up a following of more than 70 or so followers and 5 viewers at a time but I worked up the OBS skills, voice work, mic settings, game settings, hardware, etc

The problem with making it your niche is you're mostly only going to get people who knows the game watching (and chances are they're already watching other people play mahjong), trying to obtain new viewers would be hard because it's not like mahjong is the easiest game to follow for a newbie.

I've had experience with 100+ viewers before. Did a lot of collabs. Have streamed games on and off since the days of Justin.tv. I'd say most of my experience is with making videos. I also made lots of let's plays during 2008-2011, so I'd say the skills have been very transferable to streaming games.

I did my reps in learning OBS and the ins and outs of the technicals involved in streaming games in general. I'm pretty confident at this point.
Considering how long I've been around in some form or another, I should be.

I think my main problem at this point is I don't want to rebuild a live streaming audience from scratch again.

It's incredibly disheartening to stream to almost nobody when I had an audience before. I'm an oldfag and I don't think I have it in me to start from zero again, at least not right now. So I'm hoping joining to join an agency (ideally Nijisanji) to sort out that problem for me.
