I came to the US from marriage as well and Afro's story sounds almost identical to mine. Ex and I met on /soc/ back in 2016 and dated and decided to close the gap. I let her date this other person and we were polyamorus because the alternative was a really bad situation. She pushed me out of her life and now we're broken up. It really fucked me up with how close I get with people now. I don't necessarily blame her though. What she did was cruel when you're basically forced to take care of someone because of this situation, from my situation and others I've talked to, over time it can feel less like a relationship more a dependency and that can ruin relationships.
