If you want to make it big as a vtuber in this day and age, then live streaming is the worst thing you can do. The market is oversaturated with live-streamers, and you need to stand out if you want to be successful. All a vtuber is is just an anime-themed brand character. Live streaming was never and still isn't a requirement. If you want to be a vtuber, get an anime avatar and make literally any other kind of content with it.

I think a mix is good. I find most of my vtubers through vods. It rare that I'm able to catch live streams, and while being able to play along in live chat is fun, it isn't my priority.
