The reason male vtubers aren't successful is coz vtubing is fundamentally a GFE activity

It's not "entertainment" like watching a movie, no one suggests to their family or friend or gf "Hey let's watch a vtuber together." It's surrogate gf material for the teeming masses of permavirgin men.

Aspiring indie with a super fucking small (like <500 followers on Twitch) base here. I need to know, is getting a Live2D model worth it at all? Currently using a 3D model I kitbashed together with a bunch of off the shelf assets and fuckin HEAPS of custom texture and shader work. Is it worth spending the same amount of money as a 15 year old Honda Civic on a L2D model or should I just stay 3D ?

It looks generic, and that's a problem.
You can get a workable, customizable l2d cheaper than a 3d, so unless you do need the 3d then go for l2d. Being pretty and unique is very important.
Not sure what the other poster is smoking, but unless you want to comm someone who makes models for high /lig/gers then there's a sea of artists you can go for. The problem is picking them out from in between the scammers, so you need to look for other vtubers and ask around.

Thanks. The hair has been a bit of a trouble spot for me because of limitations of the VRM format. Shader it uses, this heap of shit called MToon, doesn't support alpha maps so my eyebrows are always fucking hidden.
Working on setting up a different Unity Dev environment so I can experiment with the VSF proprietary model format instead because fuck MToon. I'd rather use UTS, LilToon or even fucking Poiyomi if I could but the VRM format is so restrictive because of how portable it is.

I do VRchat stuff a lot, though rarely do I stream it cause it's usually with friends, viewers, or just my SO and I, so that's why I went with 3D since I can use a lot of the same assets easily and still keep it kinda on the cheap.

Most decent riggers I've found have quoted me in the realm of $1.5-2k on the low end with the amount of shit I'd need (alt outfits, different toggles, etc)...
