Because even if you never consumed the media itself you should at least know it if it's popular. Like I have never once sat down and watched Back To The Future 1 2 or 3 start to finisb but can tell you a brief summary of what happens in them via osmosis. Same with Danganronpa. She was told it meant something else, and only recently learned what it ACTUALLY meant.
She was told it meant "mothers in late forties", which sounds like something a parent would say to a kid that overheard an older kid say it. There was no reason to not believe that and that description still fits with its actual use a lot of the time, so it's completely believable that she didn't learn the correct meaning until now.
All the other things in OP's image are believable as well. Mario being a plumber is not actually presented in many games, with only the pipe connection being present. Pipes could seem just as random as any of the other wacky shit that goes on in Mario games.
All the other video game stuff is simply her not having access to a wide variety of video games growing up. Specifically for the Sonic one, she thought that Sonic was a cartoon first that later got a game, not the other way around. I thought the same with Earthworm Jim as a kid.

The Teen Titans are a group of DC superheroes (same company as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, etc) that are in their teens.
From 2003-2006 Cartoon Network had a show staring five of them:
- Robin (the normal fighter, normally the sidekick of Batman in other media, here the group leader)
- Starfire (the newcomer, an alien that can fly and throw energy bolts)
- Beast Boy (the comedian, can shapeshift into animals, but keeps his green colour)

The series was full of action, comedy, plot, and SHIPPING, which gave it a HUGE fanbase, especially on the internet. It also imitated anime styles and visuals and had a Japanese band provide the theme song, which helped grow its fanbase more by drawing in the weebs.
