I don't know about box pushing, but VShojo is already a relatively famous vtuber corpo and is often associated with a Western audience and Twitch. Ironmouse is still carrying the corpo name and that props up everyone else in it. The average "fan" is a numberfag who will only watch their oshi if their numbers are high. Also, these fans aren't diehard fans. They're not gonna watch Nina if she goes indie and became a 2view with no budget for a live concert or cover songs. They want the production value associated with corpos. I don't know how much of that VShojo offers, though, but surely better than flying solo as a broke indie.

I think the poaching and retirement home accusations are a way of coping with the fact that no already successful content creator wants to join either of the other two big corpos at this point. Hololive's ideal gen contains people the size of Myth PLs. Not a single holofag complained when Yagoo hired HER instead of "propping up a 2view and introducing us to new talent". It has always been assumed to be a decent cut (probably around 50) from each member around sponsorship and merch, also it's a few dudes in one office in San Fransisco, even their merch is a partnership with a production company. As someone from VSJ, I have heard the talents speak about projects that were commissioned by themselves, things like songs and obviously models that are up to the talent's desires, shit like the concert probably was also funded by them and not so much VShojo, but, businesses and partnerships are still done by VShojo, basically they do the heavy duty of sitting through details for the most part, do contacts, promote shit, schedule shit for them, things that do not require a lot of cost.

Right now, Vshojo is very different from Hololive and Nijisanji.
Both Anycolor and Cover are publicly traded. They need to appease their shareholders.
Vahojo is private and owned by Gunrun. Vshojo just needs to satisfy Gunrun and I'm not even sure he wants money from it.
About their strategy of poaching from NijiEN, it's smart. They weaken a rival and increase their perceived value. If their value is real, then the poached talents will sing praises to their friends in Nijisanji. If Mika or someone else close to Kuro or Mataran goes to Vshojo, then it means this strategy works
