I recently watched Airi's donothon and for some reason it feels like there is a realistic future for her and her corp because of all the plans from the talent herself and the CEO. A tangible vision if you will. There is also a sense of confidence I get from that corpo that I don't get from EIEN at all.

yeah, this is somewhat my sentiment as well, but it used to be different. She had something special about her before her break. I can't explain it, but it was as if she was a step from greatness, just needed a bit more time. When she came back from her break it seemed as if she had started truly separating her true, IRL self from Skye. I don't blame her, its obviously much healthier for her mental state, but she lost that spark. I still watch her because she can be entertaining, but it just doesn't feel like she will reach great heights with time, like it did before her break.

To me it's like skye and kilia have to put on a fake persona to stream and at least in kilia's case they get bored or don't see it as something fun to do. Other vtubers are just themselves so they make the streams feel more natural because it's just them being themselves.
Yes vtubing is a job but the difference is that if you treat it like a job, e.g. clearly not wanting to stream but you have to, people will notice. Other vtubers know it's a job but they don't approach it like a job so the streams are more entertaining. They actually enjoy streaming and if they don't then they are probably masters at faking it.
I think Kilia's case is the perfect example for others to not use a fake personality to stream because you won't be able to maintain it forever. Many other vtubers have said so when answering audition questions.

She roleplayed quite a bit in her life. We know how much she plays d&d, she said she rp'd in ff14 etc. I don't think Skye is getting bored with her character or that she sees this as a 9-5 that you have to survive. It seems like she is having more fun than usual, but there is this uncanny feeling of something not being right. My guess is that she really gets into the character of Skye, but the problem is the degree of separation. Things affect her, but we don't see it directly. In the usual back and forth, somebody inputs information, the other person processes it, it affects them and they change in response. In Skyes case she recieves input, processes it, it affects her real self and then the character of Skye changes in response. One could argue that we all wear masks and we are all playing characters in real life, but making a conscious decision to separate the character from your "true" self impacts the way you change in response to inputs in an unnatural way. Anyway, dunno, it's just weird to me. Schizo ramble over.

In 2020-21, if you wanted to be a successful EN vtuber, you pretty much had to copy Myth and be an "everywoman" that can sing, draw, dance, etc., all to some level of competency. Now in 2023, with more options for vtubers than ever, the successful indies and small corpos are the ones that have become specialized and carved out specific niches for themselves. This is great because it means we have an EN vtuber for every taste, but it also means just being a cute girl with an avatar isn't enough to cut it anymore.
Skye and Kilia do have what it takes to specialize but it'll be up to them to put in the effort. I hope that gen 2 helps to rekindle the fire in them too.
