The order is not so confusing as the "style" of the games.

Like, narrative wise, you'd simply play them "in order" starting with the prequel (yakuza 0) and then doing the remakes/hd versions in order.
But Zero is such good, more modern game that snapping back to the clunkyness of the early ones can be a bit of a shock. Some people advise either skipping zero to play the others first if you want all the story, or playing zero then skipping to 6 and 7 if you just want to have fun.
