As long as their brand clout is still so massive that every new female EN talent is basically guaranteed a six-figgy subcount before debut and afterwards a five-figgy monthly income just for showing up, they'll still have thousands enough potential applicants willing to snatch one of those golden tickets. Because even if their split is "just" 50% instead of 60 or whatever, nobody cares if the absolute value difference is still heavily favoring them (i.e. 50% of $10k a month is still a hell of a lot more than for example 70% of just $1k a month, as most of the smallcorpo vtubers have a much lower sc average).

If it is a shot at anyone, it's more aimed at their other smallcorpo competitiors (and maybe even NijiEN, whose recent hires have been trending so downwards lately that they almost dip into being considered smallcorpo-tier). Even if you don't buy the positive interpretation ("want to improve transparency and help talents make better informed choices" blabla whatever), it's an interesting move. Forces the conversation to your advantage (make yourself look good, thereby implicitely making your competitors look worse), maybe even bait some other corpos into replying, as contracts and money stuff is generally a hush hush issue in the business which does indeed let some black behavior fester in that obscurity. It makes Idol look more attractive to future potential applicants who'll prioritize it over other corpos, thereby it makes their competitors talent pool smaller/worse. And gets the girls in other companies with much shittier contracts to start asking questions, sow some doubts and rattle some cages, maybe even jump ship.

All in all, quite an interesting bold move indeed, as it combines both transparency and sneakyness, sasuga Heebs. As someone who has no particular horse in this race (I enjoy some Idol talents, but it's not my main company and I mostly watch vtubers from other corpos), I'll be watching to see how this develops from the sidelines with popcorn. Either it works and puts some pressure on their competitors, maybe even spark some juicy dramas, or it doesn't work and could even backfire spectacularly when it turns out they were just bullshitting. No, this is legitimately a great thing for Idol, and also a pretty big deal for potential talents in any corp EXCEPT Hololive. Before, if you auditioned for a corp and got accepted, you saw their contract and that was it. Is it a good contract? Who the fuck knows. You have nothing to compare it to. Unless it's >2% you really can't tell how much you are getting screwed over. But now there is a figure to compare to in the same small-corpo level.

What does this mean? A few things. Firstly, anyone who gets offered a shit contract is less likely to take it; that puts pressure on Idol's competitors. Secondly, Idol is more likely to be seen as the "Gold Standard" for small corpos; which means they get the pick of the litter when it comes to talents. Thirdly, anyone already in a shitty contract is now feeling extra depressed; their content quality is likely to suffer because of it. Fourthly, people in worse contracts are now more likely to have friction with their company; which could lead to suspensions, graduations or just general backroom drama that hurts their brands even further. This was a massive win for Idol's reputation and also a good step towards transparency in general. Transparency is very good for the industry because it keeps good talents from getting burned by small black corpos before they have a chance to make it big.

Hololive is exempt from all of this because a slightly worse cut means nothing when your income is an order of magnitude higher. Everyone else, however, was put on notice.

nta, but to be "fair", the "vtuber industry" consists of a lot more other companies than just Hololive/Nijisanji/Vshojo. Those are always just mentioned because, well being the biggest they're the ones everyone knows and actually cares enough about to find out their money splits. But it could just as well be the case that all the dozens of other smaller corpos that also exist might have worse splits than Holo/Niji/VS, so the "true industry average" might be a lot lower than what the generous numbers from the big companies suggest.

In general though, I'd agree on the main counter-argument: How the fuck is Aviel (or anyone, really) supposed to know what the actual industry standard is? As these things are by design private figures, it's hard to get a representative market analysis to draw any definite conclusions from, there's no database or excel spreadsheet that conveniently contains the contract values for all thousands of corpo vtubers that exist. At worst his "estimates" are basically just "make shit up whatever suits my needs" (see how conveniently all of his own corpo's numbers are always slightly better than the supposed "industry average" ). Or at best, I'd even buy that he has SOME knowledge of his competitors contracts (the other smallcorpos at least) because of some connections or because disgruntled talents of other companies have leaked their contract details to their Idol friends (the smallcorpo scene can be pretty incestuous and everyone knows everyone else) or to him directly. But even then that'd still be hardly far from an actual representative sample to make any sweeping "industry average" estimates about, and even if he was being leaked others' contract details, they're probably being biased to the negative (as talents with shitty contracts are more likely to leak, than talents who're happy with good contracts) and skew the results.
