it's entirely on him as an entertainer if he's not good enough to hold them, but at least he gets a chance with that click. better than the dozen of vroid hoodie boys that people instinctively ignore.

I have a friend who wants to be a vtuber so badly, but they have literally zero experience. Examples: streamed only once, zero history of content creation, can't draw, can't sing, constant dead air/focusing too much on the game, too embarrassed to voice act, and they just don't have that charisma needed to become a vtuber. I feel so bad for them, especially since they told me they just sent in their audition for Niji. I know they won't make it just from them not having any content creation history. I don't know if I should tell them that they don't have the skills required to be considered for Niji. I did let them know that they should start creating some content, but they didn't seem to take it seriously said some people in Niji and Holo didn't have prior experience.

Nobody mentioned "putting on a voice" like Kiara does, only accents. And changing your pitch has nothing to do with having difficulties pronouncing words or sounds. Changing your pitch has no effect on clarity, retardchama.
And stop pretending to be like know-it-all expert on marketing oneself, it's embarrassing.
Also a non-native here btw.

Engineer. Do it for her.

If you think you can handle shilling and some light pre-debut non streaming content, absolutely go for it. Too many Deadbeats are anti-debut but there's plenty of instances of it helping out people who actually do it well. You just need to network, get one of those shitty but cheap motion graphics trailers, and be active enough interacting with other chuubas. Helps to have a good quality model too.

You don't need to be a millionaire, just have a decent quality model and network. A lot of Cimrai's "influence" came from networking and collaborating with other Vtubers before they even debut. Put out some Twitter content the same as she did and you'll do fine with a debut. She had people who were already established DMing HER wanting to network. Not saying everyone can do it but if you're confident enough to be shameless in your self-promo and still be entertaining while doing it then a debut can help out a lot.

>> No.5633807

>Put out some Twitter content the same as she did and you'll do fine with a debut.
this is really disingenuous. there's a reason why her name is one of the very few that people keep repeating. she's the exception to the rule. if you're already well connected with big names and decide to jump onto the vtubing bandwagon with money, sure, it's the perfect storm that makes it work. most anons here aren't well connected with even minor e-celebs, nor do they have a bunch of money to burn.

>> No.5633902

>>5633807
She's not the only exception, she's just the most extreme end of it. Afaik she wasn't connected to anyone before becoming a vtuber, except maybe that bird by the same modeler but they could've hooked up just based on that alone since a lot of people do that.

I'm not saying everyone is able to do this, but there's enough cases over the last 2 years I've seen that show if people put the work in they can debut to a decent number and still keep a good percentage of it. I'll admit it's not doable for everyone but it's happened enough that I doubt it's pure luck they caught the attention of larger creators.

She was integrated because from the very beginning she was getting big, larger more poractive creators will approach people they see with potential in order to mix audiences and help build a better network together. Senz had an interview after debut same as Cimrai did, it's because these content creators speak outside of just Twitter in DMs and in discords. Not using Senz as an example of a guy who was brand new, just to point out that he didn't have any "connection" to these people. Large content creators just recognize talent or potential.

That being said, I'm not insinuating you'll be some massive success that all the big people want to talk to, I'm saying that a Debut, properly networked, can be just as beneficial if not more than just staggering out content as apng and hoping like 30 people come to your debut

In terms of streaming, even the top vtubers are typically chumps compared to normal twitch streamers. Even pekora is nothing compared to the top twitch streamers.

This is what I'm doing. I've got two PNGs, so I can do an open/close mouth animation. I've made my own backgrounds, panels, and that. None of it's amazing quality, but it's all to a theme, at least.

I've now done three streams, at 3, 3.5, and 5.5 hours. Only for one or two viewers (peaked at four), but it means I'm getting the hang of things now, and learning as I go.

My first stream was pretty bad. I didn't have transitions set up at all, so fumbled when trying, and had to mess with the sound settings during stream. I also had issues with source layering.

But that's all sorted, and I'm not adding more widgets for active tracking during the stream, and making it so that I can learn at least a thing or two.

Currently, I'm only $40 in the hole. I can't imagine shelling out hundreds or thousands for a model before having a vague idea of what I'm doing.

>top vtubers are typically chumps compared to normal twitch streamers

Almost all of them have been streaming and studying the platform for years upon years and grew up with it. They've made connections that'll take vtubers a while to make themselves. If any vtuber does manage to get big (even in the hundreds) and decides to venture out past vtubers, which is very viable for them to do they'll probably do really well.

>> No.5644913

>>5644786
Comparatively, you've got vtubers who have been streaming less than 2 years pulling hundreds upon hundreds of viewers, some just 3 or 4 pulling thousands like Zentreya or Silvervale. They're the exception, but they've grown at a rate those guys back then wish they could have. A lot of the big guys spent years at least sub-100 viewers and as a vtuber you can make that a lot easier than just some random jackoff because as long as you're mildly entertaining, you've got a good base to work off of.

>> No.5645787

>>5644604
A lot of vtubers follow the same model as the big big chuubas because the idea is that if it works for them, then it'll work for you too.
There's problems with this, mainly:
>Charisma will be your main asset if you're just a variety streamer, as it's something that should be able to carry over between every type of stream you do. Top streamers who've been doing this for years have refined their charisma like crazy and will be hard to beat however, so it's difficult to rely on when you're just starting out even if you can suck my cock through the screen
>A lack of unique content makes you harder to find and less likely to be spread around by the average joe when others are already doing the same but better. No, your song covers aren't special if you're just putting your voice over the original track. Neither is your Wonderwall guitar solo. Kudos to you if you cover Wndrwll however. Coco was good at this when she joined Hololive btw.
>You WILL need to pander early on to a specific audience, sticking to your guns with no specific focus will be a death sentence to viewer retention. Plenty of variety indies and just regular streamers have found initial success by appealing to a specific group early on, before using their dedicated viewers as a base to work on their wider appeal. This goes for every type of business by the way, not just streaming.

All of this comes down to one very basic business lesson: You have to give people a reason to watch you, and then a reason to stick with you. Any big streamer you've seen before has gone through this exact thing unless they've been carried by connections, but it's not impossible to make it as new content creators are always on the rise. Hours upon hours of work and streaming don't mean shit unless you give people those reasons they need to support you.

>What about trying to reach out to niche audiences i.e. 4X, grand strategy, etc
You have to do research into what type of content is already being made for those niche audiences, and see what you can do different, or perhaps find a way to make them palatable to a general audience to get more people interested in exploring the subject, and then sticking with you as their hook into the genre. A good example would be Maximilian Dood who made fighting game content that was extremely fun and easy for a more casual audience to digest, and probably plays a significant part in how popular fighting games are today.

>I find it kinda odd the obsession with wanting to be a vtuber anyways.

Everyone and their mom wants to become a VTuber because they want to be loved just like the top VTubers out there. They want fame, adoring fans, and people who will love for who they are. I've seen so many people wasting thousands for a beautiful rig only to to completely fail in retaining viewers because, surprise surprise, the shell doesn't matter if the person inside isn't interesting.

I'll use Aoba Amemori (雨森青葉) as an example;

He is the product of Himono, one of the best rigger and modeler I've seen out there. I first saw him due to Himono's Live2D video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LqS6sIziRQ

He has one of the most amazing rigs I've seen. Massive range of movement, expressions, etc. I dare say even larger range of movement than some Hololive models. Just look at this link for an example of how wide the head movement is: https://twitter.com/himono_vtuber/status/1332127642032619523

What happened though? He has one of the best riggers/modelers out there, the buff from Himono's reputation, and even two videos from her basically advertising him. Basically, he's boring as fuck and those buffs couldn't save him.

I tried to find Himono's Live2D prices, but she doesn't have them listed anymore due the demand for her work. It's extremely expensive just from looking at the quality of her models though.

She doesn't understand enough English for you to fully communicate with her as an EOP. You'll have to find someone to properly translate things, even more so if you're only going to commission her rigging. Himono said before that she may contact the model's artist if she needs extra parts drawn or voids filled, something that will be difficult if there's a language barrier.

If you're willing to spend some time searching, there are a lot of great JP riggers out there. It's just difficult for EOPs to find them. I'd link a couple, but I can't remember anyone else besides Himono.

You don't need a god like model to have viewers. Yeah it helps to get people to click on your content, but at the end of the day they won't stay to watch your content if you're boring. If you're an actual oil baron though, go wild and commission the best model out there. It's probably chump change for you if that's the case.

What on earth is the actual working hours clocked in by corporate vtubers outside of their streaming hours?

That is, knowing Japanese corporations will try to sneak in work hours off the books?

>> No.5648678

>>5648469
Yeah I figured the language barrier would be an issue, and I don't think my artist speaks JP either (at least, haven't seen any in the tweets I looked at). Other ones off the top of my head were the ones that did the rigging for the new Holo4 and HoloEN outfits. Jujube and... I forget the other (Kelliy or something?). Not whoever did Gura's new outfit though.

>>5648520
I'd imagine it would be hard to tell, and dependant on the streamer. Obviously there's prep time, planning, meetings, rights management and whatnot. Also you have some like Coco that do a lot of shit in the background.

>Off the books hours without pay is such a gouging.
Just so you know, if you want to look at streaming as an actual profession, there aren't really any "off hours". Due to the lack of any real work hours, a lot end up just streaming a shitload, or doing related work. Because of the overarching thought of "I could be streaming right now". Want to play a game? Well fuck, may as well stream it. Bored? May as well stream. It becomes a job that kinda removes any sort of 'free time'. Thats why you see so many streamers with godawful work schedules as time goes on.

Watson talked about it in one of her Q&A streams but I can’t remember which one. The answer was quite a bit, but I don’t remember an exact number.

You want to temper your expectations if you think riggers that worked on Hololive models would even consider working on yours if you're a nobody. They're at the top for a reason- except for the one that did Gura and Anya, their work is god awful (sorry but it's true). Iron Vortex might not consider your application for rigging you're a nobody either. Maybe if you're an oil baron you could bribe top riggers to work on your model though.

I love my artists work and the design fits me and my style perfectly IMO, so I wanna do right by them and get some good rigging done since I can afford it out of pocket. I just don't want art I love to be saddled with terrible rigging due to impatience.

I'll be honest, I hate Iron Vortex's rigging (especially Brian's). The physics are turned up too damn high which makes their tits look like water balloons and hair float around too much. It's extremely distracting.

blame thirsty weebs with too much disposable income financially supporting shit like that. it's highly in demand, so that's what the people provide.

Didn't realize they expanded into whirlpools. But yeah I can see why someone wouldn't like it, but I don't mind it at all. I think it really depends on the character. Anime waifus with hair and clothing bits all over the place make sense to be more "bouncy" to catch the eye but sometimes it gets out of hand.

>> No.5650617

I'm glad Brian toned that shit down for Ritsu's rig

>>5650047
For some reason I always thought of it as vortex and not vertex.

A character can be bouncy without extreme psychics. Ollie, Akirose, and Cali are some examples that comes to mind. I personally like more realistic rigging but I can see the demand for tits that have a mind of its own.

I only want to become a successful vtuber so people know who I really am, point out all of the weird traits and personality quirks that I can't see in myself. I want them to analyze how I play video games and write out long paragraphs talking about what kind of person they think I am based on my decisions. I want them come up with memes about me that feature the dumbest shit I say. I want them to clip me talking about my thoughts and making myself more vulnerable and open to thousands of strangers online, more than I'll ever be able to open up to my close friends and family. I want to leave a small impact in the lives of the people who watch me so that for just 2 hours of every long fucking day in this hell hole, they can smile and laugh a bit.

You need to push an overly sexual angle in your content then. Artsy streamed to horny fucks for YEARS to cultivate that audience, so he farmed the hell out of it.

don't wanna scare off viewers too early by making it obvious that i'm pushing a sexual angle. my plan is to try and mix it in with the rest of the stream and make it seem kinda... natural? if that makes sense. like commenting on things i see in-game, or maybe staring at an NPCs ass for a little too long, moaning slightly when i take damage instead of the usual "ah! yabai!" type of shit.

you think that'd work?

Unless you've got a good femboy voice then no one will care, it's how a lot of VRChat femboys like Artsy and lesser streamers got popular, literally doing exactly what you're saying. You're more likely to attract weirdos and not actual artists and then get pigeonholed into that type of content, unable to do anything else and weirding out a lot of non-viewers.
