I never picked it up, but before that I was playing various anime fighters. Now I play Street Fighter 6 cause I like the slower pace and shorter combos.
It wasn't without trying, I tried to get my friends to play it with me online, and bringing it to my locals, but nobody would/will bite. It's one thing, at the latter, to just walk up and ask people for a round of something, it's another entirely to be the guy already playing the game and just hoping someone will join.
If you want a personal reason, the systems didn't really feel that good to me, compared to other stuff. I was able to pick up Sonic Smackdown pretty quickly, but my eyes kind of glazed over at Idol Showdown. Just seems very knowledge check heavy. I've gotten better at the genre since I last played, so maybe my opinion would be different now, idk, I just feel like they'd have had more luck aiming for something more like Fantasy Strike, where the girls could actually get into it.

I'd appreciate any counter arguments to what I said, since I've got a few idiots I know who still have some interest in the game since it's free.

Considering it has to compensate for a variety of angles, knockback curves, positions, and exists in a two-axis game where the second axis is very important and where stuff sends isn’t always the same, it has to do a ton of calcs just to make simple things connect. You can see it especially in how like, jabs have a set of grounded vs aerial hitboxes, the former that would send nowhere because it’s meant to combo, and the other that sends upward, since if they did the same as the grounded version they could be used for cheesy dragdown kills on offstage opponents.

Adding Ollie (if the rumors are true) and an EN seems like a desperate bone to throw to the other branches at the last minute by the devs and missing the point of the game they are making.
The game has a small roster of HoloJP idols and should have stuck with that theme till the end. There isn't even a HoloX girl in the roster when every other gen and Gamers is covered. The last two slots should have been HoloX girl and their secret base as a stage, and one more JP girl with a unique gimmick the devs thought would be cool. New collabs are where you stuff the other branches into.
