Kaela's problem is using zorroark which you need to be pretty high skilled and good game sense to perform. Zorroark's damage come from combos and can be interupted by the slightest cc skills so it all depends on your game sense to know when to execute people like an assassin. Kaela can only perform the combos at like 50% success rate, she is missing her combos even on jungle creeps.

First Anya wandered into EN hiding in the bushes and got picked.
Then EN started Rayquaza. Kiara backed out after getting hit by a cyclone and Kobo went after her and IRyS and Fauna (Fauna dodged) to knock them in, which was a good play. Kiara died, but during this Kaela was just arriving and Ollie and Reine were behind. Then Mori secured Rayquaza while Ollie and Reine were still just on the outside of the fight, and they cleaned up with the shield buff.

They actually did super well considering they had like a week to organize any practice, and 3 or 4 members didn't even play the game before (dunno about Ame, she apparently have experience with MOBAs, but no idea if she tried Unite). Everyone expected total EN death, even the girls, imagine going like 100-800 points against JP and 200-700 against ID. Meanwhile they won against ID, and JP loss was only like 375-500 something. (one exemption for this was Koyori who performed the openings that she learned well against Nene in the group stage, leading to the semi final between her and Okayu
a.k.a. the best match in that tourney)
Top players also agree that beating even immediate-level puyo requires one to be high-level in tetris.

Marine was already the most exceptional puyo player before the tournament, albeit still learning the openings leading to the tournament.
The final proof of those assumptions was if Marine can beat the best tetris player in holo, Suisei, which she did, 3 days before the tournament (scoring 3-2), and further proving again the top players' opinion point as she beat Sui again immediately after the tournament.
