They originally started out just making VR games and applications. Back in 2017/2018 their big gig was partnering with HTC vive to basically create a budget kizuna AI kit. The idea is that all you needed was a vive and cover's software and you too could become the next Kizuna Ai without spending a small fortune on a studio and mo cap cameras. This deal fell through because live2d basically undercut their entire business model, why shell out a few hundred dollars for a vive when you can just download facerig and achieve the same result with a 20 dollar go pro. And the price was another big deal too, yeah it was cheaper than a full studio but it's still almost a thousand dollars and that's a pretty big chunk of change to sink into a hobby. Sony's mocopi is almost half that price and it is still a pretty big chunk of change, despite it being capable of far greater fidelity than a vive.
