The 1996 Doctor Who TV Movie almost comes to mind in that respect, it's had a fairly infamous reputation since it was first released (and as an initial attempt to bring back the show itself, it pretty much failed either way).
But when accepted as dumb campy fun it's actually kind of alright. Also Paul McGann is still one of the Best Doctors. Thank god for Big Finish because it's unironically criminal how little of a chance he actually got on Television.

That Doctor Who movie would actually be a really good candidate for a watchalong! I've seen it a few times and I think it would be pretty fun to watch it with Selen! Chibnal's writing was shit! I tried Jodie's era a chance, but after her first season and that New Year's Dalek special, I was out. All the way through that first season I just felt that something wasn't right, and then halfway through I realised how shit the dialogue, writing, and even the acting (Jodie pretty much played the Doctor like she had post regenerative sickness the entire time, and never had a defining Doctor moment (when you know that the Doctor is back essentially) she also pretty much did a Cringie David Tennant and Matt Smith impression the entire time too) was. I even forgot the show was on a few times throughout that season! That never happened to me before! I always tried to watch the show whenever it was on, even whenever they did repeats of the older Nu Who episodes I'd still try and watch them on ABC 1 or 2.

Couldn't even get to Rosa, Punjab, or the Dalek story. You know, the ones that are meant to be good apparently...
And yeah, Jodie's Doctor really was just Tennant/Smith-lite in those episodes but without any of the personality or charisma that carried those two...
And overall it just made me more upset over Capaldi seemingly getting shafted in the role ngl, his was honestly one of the best portrayals of the character since Eccleston or even the Classic Series imho. Just wish he got better material overall...

There's a lot of really interesting behind the scenes info out there about the movie. They were even going to reboot Doctor Who in the early 90's, with a popular radio DJ at the time (his name escapes me) slated to play as the Doctor. They were going to make the TARDIS a red public phone box instead of a Police Box, and apparently they actually recorded a handful of episodes before deciding to scrap the whole thing. They even destroyed the tapes so that it would never get released to the public. It was really bad apparently. Doctor Who's scrapped 30th anniversary special "Lost In The Dark Dimension" is another interesting thing to research. The Cyberman design that they specifically made for that scrapped special looks pretty creepy...

Capaldi was a fantastic Doctor! Some of the writing he was given wasn't the best, but he poured his soul into that role, and even made a bad script look so good with his acting! He absolutely got shafted btw. There were a few interviews that he did a year before he left where he said that he wanted to play the Doctor for as long as he could, and he seemed to really enjoy playing the role too. Chibnal only wanted to the showrunner if he could make the Doctor female (the only actresses he had in mind to play the role were all ones he had worked with before too, Olivia Coleman who probably took one look at the script and said no, and sloppy seconds Jodie, who ended up saying yes.), so when he got the job, Peter's fate had already been decided...

Yeah, I liked the classic heads on the new Cybermen, but their torsos on the other hand... (I really liked how they brought back the creepy cloth faced Cybermen from The Tenth Planet, in Capaldi's era! The only nitpick I would have to give them is that I thought that the metallic stomping noise that they've used on the Cybermen since Tennant's era didn't suit these Cybermen at all, and I thought that it was weird that they didn't use the handheld weapons they had in "TTP" and made the big light on their heads their weapons instead) Chibnal bringing back the Sea Devils was another desperate attempt to win back fans. So was making the Sontarans look like their classic Who counterparts.

You know what would've been really cool, during Capaldi's era I always wondered if they would bring back Jamie and have the Doctor and him reunite. The Scottish Doctor with the Scottish companion. They could've even used ideas from the scrapped Yeti story (and Jamie's originally planned final appearance) "The Laird Of The Mccrimmon". That and Capaldi running into Ian Chesterton in another episode. That could've been a year jerker of a scene if they actually did that, back in Capaldi's era.

I still have a soft spot for Doctor Who. My family have watched it ever since it first started airing here in Australia in 1965. My mum used to love watching it, but my Aunty was scared of it, she couldn't even watch the intro (funny enough, I was scared of the intro when my mum tried getting me into Doctor Who when I was really young, and the ABC had a rerun of a Sylvester McCoy episode on TV. Kek, my first relationship with the show was actually when it first came back in 2005.
I remember initially not wanting to watch it right up until the Dalek episode came out, ever since then I was pretty much hooked and watched almost every episode that aired since. (Chibnall being pretty much the breaking point as usual)
And for a while, especially during the Tennant era of the show, it was actually almost a family event when an episode aired each Saturday lol.
First exposure to Classic Who for me was when I got the DVD Boxset with all of Davros' stories in it, including ofc both Genesis of the Daleks & Remembrance of the Daleks, which funnily enough coincided with the year they brought back Davros himself in Nu-Who so I ended up unironically being hyped af for that as a result kek.
Wasn't really until Capaldi's era though that I started consuming more and more Classic Who media (both the DVDs and some of the Big Finish Audio Dramas), and for a short while becoming more and more of a fan than I already was.
Even if I fell out of love with it over a lot what's ended up happening to it recently, I also still have a Soft Spot for the show and do not at regret buying up a lot of the Classic Who media I did or watching Doctor Who to begin with. Because it was such a great show and I unironically wish it can be a great show again...
If not though there's still a lot of good Classic Who and Big Finish Media to consume kek

Bro, that is pretty much how I was with Doctor Who too! The only difference is that my mum tried to get me into it with reruns of classic Who (the 7th Doctor episode I mentioned earlier, that scared the crap out of me just with it's opening theme) and with Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant's episodes, but I was still really scared of it. It wasn't until David's last season that I actually watched and got into the show. I remember being hyped for the Daleks and for Davros, because I remembered reading about them in an old book they had at my school library, that was published in the 80s called "The Doctor Who Visual Effects Book" (I learned a lot about Doctor Who from that book! At the time I was really confused about why there were so many weirdly numbered episodes from the 60s (years later I would learn why that was the case... the missing episodes and the state of the archives, which back when that book was published 1985-86, was in a worse state than it is now). I remember asking my mum about things that she remembered from the show when she watched it, too.), and I really enjoyed that 2 part finale! It was so good, and even though I wasn't familiar with all the characters that appeared in those episodes at the time (Torchwood, Sarah Jane, and K9) I knew it was a big and awesome moment when they all met up with the Doctor on the Dalek ship, and especially when Davros and Sarah Jane saw each other again. Then I would watch Doctor Who all the way up to Jodie's first season.

The first Classic Doctor Who episode I watched was properly (besides that 7th Doctor episode, that I couldn't get past the opening without being terrified) was The Ark with the first Doctor. My Granny bought the DVD for me, and I really enjoyed it! I got the Earth Stories boxset (that came with "The Gunfighters" with William Hartnell, and "The Awakening" with Peter Davison, and a few years later I also got the special edition of "The Green Death", and my love for classic Who grew more and more! When Capaldi's first season started, was when I really started to grow my classic Who collection (specifically when JB HI FI had a special deal going on that was really awesome, buy one get one free on all classic Doctor Who DVDs! They kept doing them every year, and eventually even started doing them 2 or even 3 times a year! It was really awesome, and I remember saving up my money so that when the sale would come around I'd have a lot of money to buy as many Doctor Who DVDs as I could.), and I would watch them all, pretty much whenever I could! I loved watching the special features too, finding out how the episodes were made, and I even listened to the commentaries, and had the info text turned on that would give you interesting facts about the production of the story you were watching while playing the episodes. I loved every moment I spent watching those episodes, and I cherish all my Doctor Who DVDs, and even occasionally still watch one whenever I feel like popping one on! It's a shame that Chibnall ruined this iconic show, but I cherish all the memories that I have of watching every episode and going out and collecting the DVDs.

I've actually listened to a few of Big Finish's Doctor Who stories (Spare Parts is my favourite.), but it was really difficult to come across them in the wild here. I only ever found one physically at an ABC Shop (back when they actually had them, they all closed down in 2016-17 ish), and in it the 5th Doctor goes back to Espace and visits Adric's home planet again. That's the only one I own physically (I can't remember what the story was called though...), but I've listened to a few others digitally, and they are really good! They were also a good way to own the surviving audio tracks from the missing episodes too (before they started doing the massive animated reconstructions, and released them on DVD and Blu Ray, at least)!

Yeah, Spare Parts is great! It serves as a great origin story for the original Mondasian Cybermen. I like how Steven Moffat set his semi origin story for them on a Mondasian colony ship, so that this story can still be considered canon, while also giving the Cybermen an origin story for people who just watch the TV series.
