Take the identical recipe/candy and put it behind a noname package with 0 recognition and it likely will sell only a small fraction worth. People trust Snickers to be good so "snickers but it's also this" is more appealing. Holo with Western fans, earned that Snickers level trust with JP actually even before EN came out, because there was a significant grassroots Western fandom for the JPs going on years leading up to EN. Nijisanji was basically like, Mike & Ike's something in contrast, probably frequently heard of but a more niche thing and way way way less popular/ubiquitous leading into nijiEN. Everything else? Dollar store ripoff candy. That doesn't mean it's bad, it just has no brand to carry it at all. Blue dorito really is worth that much in recognition.

It's a genuine problem, this debut hype creates a huge issue with cultivating a fanbase since a large percentage of your audience early on is going to be people who you might not even want.
