Hello /asp/ies, I'm an ESL that has sometimes trouble coming up with the right words I want to speak, and I also noticed that I tend to mumble. What do you recommend I do to deal with that? I can write well since I've spent my whole life on the internet, but speaking it out loud is completely different.

I would like some advice on minimizing outside noise as much as possible.
For instance, if someone ever knocks on my door, I want it to not be picked up on stream.

Using my gain nobs on the mic and sound settings in OBS, what advice would you give someone like me?

depends on how paranoid you are about it, if you are willing to sacrifice non-talking sounds (if you do bark redeems or stretch redeems or literally any noise that is not you talking normally), you can use RTX voice / nvidia broadcast. it's noise suppression that literally removes anything that isnt a talking human voice from the mic input

Heres what I would do.

1. Use a highly directional dynamic mic
2. Make sure your mic is right in front of your face, make sure to use a pop filter
3. Set a noise gate very high, high enough that you have to talk relatively loudly to even get through it. And set the attack time to be relatively high so that it doesn't really pick up very sudden sounds like knocking easily.
4. As other anons said, use one of those very aggressive noise suppression filters

At the end of the day I think it will depend on how loudly they knock. If you don't happen to be talking when they knock it probably wont pick up the knock but if you are talking it could get by and possibly get into your mic.

It basically boils down to confidence and practice. Take your time. Slow down your speech, much more than you think is normal, and then build from there. It doesn't matter that you pause your speech sometimes if you act casual and relaxed about it. Some people feel comforted by it even.

On that note, I feel like a lot of people on here could improve their game commentary if they relaxed a bit more. Don't talk about the game and its minute technicalities 100% of the time at 150% speed. It's fine to breathe and talk about life or to shoot the shit with chat, you know. Allow yourself to be a bit silly. Have a personality, and if you don't, start developing one.

Basically, yeah. I have noticed that online multiplayer games pull in more viewership than single player games though, regardless if they're obscure or not. Digby, for instance, gets peak viewership from Dragonball Breakers, probably because he's the only one streaming it.

What’s y’all’s opinions on switching between games regularly on a single stream as opposed to just sticking with one for the entire time? I tend to get pretty bored of just playing 1 game for even a 1-2 hour interval, so I like to frequently switch when I play on my own time, but I haven’t really seen very many people stream like that.

I often do streams where the purpose is to play multiple games. Usually this is because those games are on the shorter end, but often I will switch games if they aren't very good. It works well if you want to focus on scuffed games or kusoge. I also sometimes do streams where I play a whole bunch of free demos in a row. All of these types of streams perform quite well with my audience and I think they enjoy them very much.

Now in the case of regular games that are popularly streamed. I think how well a game switch is received (or rather what percentage of your audience will leave) kind of depends on how different the games you are switching are. Going from Valorant to CS:GO will probably go a lot better than if you switched to Animal Crossing. But depending on how diverse a set of games you regularly stream is, you can certainly cultivate an audience that will be mostly fine with even a switch like that.

I can't speak for Tekken, but anything Diamond-Up in SF6 will have people come by to offer tips or learn from you.

Online ranks are mildly irrelevant in fighting games, as ladder rewards grind over skill. Just be proficient in the game itself and know how to convey both your and opponents gameplan. Look at Sajam/Jiyuna streams for reference, since this is the best current FGC can offer from independent broadcasting standpoint. Daigo is pretty entertaining too if you know japanese.

You'll attract all sorts in the fgc and st any rank. "Really good" is TGO in at least your personal character. That said, unless you're top 8ing tournaments people probably aren't racing to your channel for your specific skill. Some players will watch low to mid ranks just to appreciate the climb and scuff, some channels host viewer lobbies.
Another thing that will pull viewers from the catalog is character specialization. I play only Marisa. I learn and develop tech as Marisa and climb ladder with her on stream. That specialization means, win or lose, I'm providing information to other Marisa players who find me through the tag on my channel. Character specialization can be a big marketing boost in multi-player games generally. Some of the biggest league channels have awful players with awful personalities or good players goofy png models but they are known as specialists in their particular character so people ho there to see their favorite character.
