You can continually fire or charge your pistol while running around and dodging etc for passive damage. Can charge your sword while dodging too. If you know what you're doing and get the hang of multitasking you can grind down the bosses pretty quickly, but Ame is sticking to doing one thing at a time, and as others noticed, not always using her big damage opportunities like when she dodges or parries a big attack only to stare at the boss for the small reward window they give you. I don't 100% blame her for that though, she's new to the game and it's not the type she plays in the first place, plus streamerbrain is real. All things considered I think she's doing okay. Calli's recent stream shows what efficient damage looks like since she'd already beaten the game once back when it was released in 2016(?).
