I think a possible solution would be having a theme for each submission period that she only reveals the moment the form goes up. A big part of the reason why the slots fill up so fast is that a lot of sheeple have their songs ready to submit and can get them in as soon as it goes up, so making it so that they have to actually think about their choices within certain criteria that they don't know beforehand could be helpful (and depending on the theme chosen could filter some people from submitting at all). It'd mix up the standard music review formula a bit too.

Why does her backlog need to end? It ending only currently matters because of the 80 song cap and the need for her to manually reopen it every time. If it rolls, then the backlog never matters, Conky can take his time to review songs instead of having to do it Sunday night, and people won't feel excluded. The only valid point you made is the 3-4 month gap between submission and being played... but now that she is keeping playlists of the songs on a second youtube account, which the music review listing, it's not hard to check the playlist to see if you should watch a vod or not. If it takes 4 months to get to, oh well. Better than never getting to it because timezones fucked you.
The current method is not sustainable for higher growth or retaining new audience.

He was talking about going viral, not succeeding. Lots of people have a video that goes viral but flop because everything else is shit. Going viral has been relatively broken down to a science now. Youtubers who are skilled have shown they can artificially push content into virality and it's the cause of shit like the spiderman/elsa videos. Going viral and being successful are separate things, but being successful tends to require one thing to go viral before clicking unless you do heavy marketing. That's why so many creators shill so much.
