Nigga she was ALREADY a "huge star" in EN VTubing all throughout 2020 and even mid 2021.
Remember all the hype behind her, the overtaking of JPs, overtaking of Kizuna Ai, her Karaokes getting 100 fucking k viewers, and that hype even lasting for more than 1.5 years with her Cat Shark outfit?
My point is that she did a lot of legwork by just being present and streaming as much as a regular EN streamer is expected to for the first two years of her career, and was THE top VTuber for that entire time period.
And while she was streaming, she was given praise and accolade that she felt was undeserved, and wanted to just have a comfy small chat she could be more intimate with - hence leading to the increase in mengen.

But now that the "hype" is over, she's realizing that she has no "real" fans. i.e. There's no one that "oshi"s her. First thing she sees when she tweets or puts up a waiting room are antiposts and anti streams.
It used to be that straight up antiposts against her were the minority, but ever since her own fucking MEMBERS started shitting on her, she's pretty much lost that "hololive comfort" feeling, where holos on break are assured to have a comfortable fanbase they can return to, rather than a band of raving schizos that won't watch anyone other than you because there's no one else to fucking WATCH in the company, and chumbuds won't even TRY.

Why would she EVER want to return to streaming if that's the type of people waiting for her? People who straight up shit on her because she "didn't communicate", without even knowing how bad she is at doing her social media reps and how much she HATES posting on twitter due to this very phenomenon of shitting on anything that moves!

She's still the "number one", all eyes are on her, no one else has come up and taken her throne from her, either from Hololive or outside.
Is it any wonder why she prefers streaming on other holos' channels?
Where at least that fanbase can perhaps drown out the schizos, and menhera chumbuds will HOPEFULLY not stand out too much?

I like Gura don't get me wrong. But from a number perspective unless she starts streaming regularly she can't save this sinking ship. People are apathetic or bitter towards western Vtubing. Most of them watch out of habit more than genuine passion. A graduation will bring back some emotional response from the fans. The good thing (for the shareholders) about accelerate is that it’s low cost, you diversify your investments (who cares if 90% of them are shitters if you have like five times as many people as Hololive), and you aren’t held hostage by any Ayames, Lapluses, or Guras being uncooperative.
The flip side is it really doesn’t build much brand identity or create a secondary economy outside of streams and events. The livers don’t much from the merch, so there isn’t as much there to get excited about from the fans. The music events don’t have that holohype Cover’s built. There is actual academic research out there that says content creation companies with lots of events and merch are more protected from online piracy than companies that mostly rely on their content. Which to me explains perfectly why Anycolor are such faggots about clips and doujins. And also why Salome’s debut hype became a flash in the pan rather than something they could leverage into long-term gain for the whole corpo.

Hololive's "box" ecosystem was created so that VTubers could afford to take breaks without having their viewership (and therefor income) cut in half or worse. Back before they gained prominence, "taking breaks" was just not done in the industry.

Since it was so highly competitive, once you took a break, your viewers would just go watch someone else, and there would be no guarantee of them returning to you.
If you were a 3view and you had to go on a hiatus longer than 3 months, you might as well just graduate, and that happened very often back in the day.
The "box" system, the "oshi" system from idols gaining prominence with Hololive, leading to more fan attachment and allowances in taking breaks, all of this was designed so that VTubers could take breaks without losing their entire fanbase and having to graduate.
A small gap of 2 weeks that she didn't announce that she wouldn't be streaming for (just as usual for the past 4-5 months) was enough for her own fucking FANS to turn on her. That's basically old school VTubing, but perhaps even worse, as instead of watching someone else they are choosing to shit on her.
Hololive themselves will do everything in their power to keep her in the company, but if she's not really feeling welcome anymore, she will just leave. And then there truly will no longer be anyone else to hold a candle to her.
