Those AC things don't work in the UK without having the window just open. There's no real seal that works. I had one of those mosquito type cover things on mine and if you pushed the window it will just open and tear it. With a cat it's really not going to work.

The point of the cover is to act as a seal around the vent so the window should be completely blocked off. Usually they wrap around the outside of the window frame so you can physically attach it with screws from the inside of the house.
