I’ve been enjoying Luto a lot recently. At first I didn’t think much of her due to, well no easy way to say it, looking like a certain someone but ignoring that she’s really funny and sweet. While she might not have a lot of viewers it makes her chat close and comfy, plus Luto is energetic enough to mess around with everyone and having fun with the games she play.

NTA, but there's often too much off-topic shit in chat about other discord users. Viewers are there to watch the streamer, they don't give a shit that your friend can't make it to the stream, don't fucking superchat that and make streamer read it out because it only detracts from the stream. There's other more indiscreet shit along those lines. It really just needs to happen during superchat readings where it won't be intrusive, and it'll then garner more attention from the streamer as well.

Agreed. Although the Prism girls partially enable this behaviour too, so it's on them to tone it down a bit too. Don't get rid of it all together, as it's fun a engaging for the viewers, but some of the inside jokes run on for way too long

This is true, I feel like there's a fairly low upper limit on vtuber model cost/quality that most startup businesses should be able to cover. Spending $3000 per model is somewhat reasonable and get you models as good as Hololive assuming you don't get scammed. Most of these agencies tend to just go through the motions barely managing their talents or even worse become super overbearing and restrictive damaging their growth. It's not like achieving a sweet spot is easy but if you have insane levels of money it's better to invest it into creating viral content and events to promote your talents rather than flexing with $10,000 models.

The rigging is horrendous(yes even on the original) and the concept is just lifted off a anime character her roommate used as an avatar. It's not some totally unique or focus-tested design, in fact it's about as low effort as it gets.
Same for "ties to a successful roommate" I think that shit is super overblown. It helps to have one because it means you know how to game the algorithm and can just repeat the process but most of her viewers don't come from her roommate's channel or anything.

I really enjoy Urara's streams but if Cyberlive's angle with the manager talent is to emulate that then I'm not optimistic for them. I'd say what draws people into Urara's streams is less her insights into Tsunderia (typically hints at best, and it's really only one demographic that cares) and more her advice and her takes on the industry more broadly. It pulls in a fairly different crowd, you tend to see people like /asp/ies in chat who don't really follow the rest of the agency to my knowledge.
Somebody who just manages a few talents isn't really the same, and as you said there's only so much they can give away. Unless she's knowledgeable to the point of it being a talent in itself, then that content is going to be way too niche for a small agency.

Also you misunderstood me. I'm also not talking about the talents, I'm talking about the agency behind them. The big challenge these small English-speaking agencies face is that they're not entering the lawless wasteland of 2017-2019, they're entering into a market where one behemoth holds like 90+% of the market, and everyone will compare you to them, treat you as being lesser than them, and would rather be watching them instead of you anyways.
Most people aren't giving newcomers a chance, they're waiting for HoloEN2.

There's so many vtubers that are better singers than Gura but it's pretty much just personal taste. However one thing Gura has that all those better-trained other singers don't is her voice has this natural quality to it that makes her extremely pleasant to listen to when she's talking or singing. It's not even relaxing or Gosling-inducing like ASMR voices such as Rita's, it's just...I don't know, disarming? People are really attracted to her seemingly unconsciously.
I'd say either she's really skilled at perfecting the way she talks and sings to have such mass appeal or she's just some freak case, who knows.

It's probably futile to try to compare to Gura though since that quality of hers' can't be replicated. Better to look at someone like Mori who genuinely would be nothing without Hololive's built-in audience to prop her up or Kiara who struggles even with Hololive's buffs. Even then though I'm not sure anyone on Prism's current roster matches up to Kiara even on her bad days in terms of natural social skills and ability to keep viewers engaged for long periods of time. Meno is a cute ESL who does story telling streams and short, daily language learning streams. She has a notoriously bad mic setup, but mostly just makes cute noises so there's nothing she's saying that you're missing anyway.

Iku does a bit of variety, mostly plays games and draws. She has some issues with her throat recently which is preventing her from doing singing. She leans a bit into GFE.

Her internet's adequate, the bit rate for audio is much lower than video, she might not be able to hit 1080p but it'd still be more than adequate. Her audio doesn't sound bit-starved either.
Assuming she's on a reasonable mic now, my next guess would be that she's using an aggressive sound filter to deal with background noise or something along those lines.
